x100 times better than Strange Brigade.
i wouldnt say it's like Doom; it's like L4D in the SE series thus making your skill to aim for the headshot's matter.
you will have more action than SE cause you will be aiming and shooting like crazy.
you will feel right at home if you played se2.
it will improve your skill to point and shoot faster.
you will have to mind your surroundings more cause you would stand, shoot several zombies,
and watch your envrionment for spawned zombies.
once you know the maps you will be more efficient with the explosives you plant and you get to kill large groups of zombies and that would feel very satisfying in compared to se where you use them more tactically.
On the other hand I got Sniper Elite 4 via the Humble Bundle and this game is fantastic. Only completed three levels so far, 2 on medium and the last on hardcore, totally worth it. Playing the game on Sniper Elite (medium) keeps the ballistics in play and also shows you how the AI works. It lets you see that the game is not cheating, how evasive you have to be, where your shots will land if you hold your breath, etc. Hell the AI doesn't even respawn, dead is dead! Once you see all of that you can feel more confident and go full hardcore where you don't have so much as a HUD (though, annoyingly, in hardcore your guy throws away entire magazines rather than reload them so you don't want to combat reload unless you have to).
If you're looking to get one, I'd go Sniper Elite 4, pick the T-post tactical sight for your rifle and go out on the range for a bit. Once you figure out where to shoot the 50 and 100 meter targets zeroed at zero meters you'll be good to go (you'll want to change your zero further out). Maybe do the first level or two in Sniper Elite then go all the way to hardcore if that interests you.
Anyway just my opinion as an excited new fan. I guess if zombies are cheap go for it but yeah, I just didn't find it all that great and it really doesn't do the stealh/sniping that highlights this series any justice, at least from my limited experience.
Steam does have a refund policy.

If you play SE just because you want to be the ultra sniper then its maybe not the best game for you. As someone said its more like l4d2, and if you had to compare it to a mode in SE its like the survival mode except you have an objective to reach.
It is similar to SE2 and has the same engine as 2
Looks slightly better at visual design.
The creepy music alongside the wierd visual effects still makes it one of the most playable games out. Gameplay is difficult - but you can reduce the levels at any time. Turning off the soud effects increases playability but decreases atmospheric effects - nothing scarier than the munching sounds ya get when a zombie corners you and starts in for a snack!
As stated above - the game engine is an older one - but still readily playable - although the sniping is mainly point and fire - little wind or gravity adjustment needed at all...
It's a good way to demo the game. My coop partner and I went through a pretty good chunk of the game before refunding it and we found it got repetitive fast (was all run and gun). SE4 is in a different ballpark altogether.
