I've forgotten every mission by now, so it'll be like starting a new game.
(Guess I'll feel too cramped and locked in witount a drone and a backup team now
It's still a damn nice game after all.
The ZH-29 is really nice. it's just the 'getting out of scope during extreme recoil, rescope, hold breath'-combo that makes it a more stressful rifle if you're laying down a few quick shots.
As long as you're used to it, almowst every weapon is great.
(And lethal one-shots are still one-shots. and you don't have to care about the recoil.)
It should also be noted that USMC and US Army marksmen weren't really trained to be "snipers;" there weren't any US military sniper schools, not until the Korean war, a few years after the Allied / Axis conflict had resolved. There were designated marksmen tasked with sniping and advanced reconaissance, and such shooters were selected as being th best in their units—and most of them did NOT use scopes, for various practical and safety reasons. The shooter would use iron sights, not a scope, and he'd have a binoculars-equipped spotter companion to aid him in obtaining the most accurate firing solutions.
Some situations called for a single marksman to increase the probability of mission success, and such objectives required the most painstaking and careful use of stealth in what very often were suicide missions.
Absent from this game—that was present in Sniper Elite 3—was the need to relocate after firing a single shot in a relatively quiet environment.
Silencers on long guns were practically non-existent as well, a notable exception being the .45-caliber British De Lisle Commando carbine, requiring the use of low-velocity ammunition with the integrated sound suppression system.
Getting the rifles in this game to work IRL as they do in this fictitious scenario would require staggering amounts of fairy dust and magic wands, but that's okay. This is a game, just pure fun. Anyone wanting absolute realism would get better results stealing classified military simulators…that did not exist in the middle of the former century.
I still like the Russian gun. Real Nazi soldiers often abandoned their weapons when liberating these from fallen enemies.

Noob weapons? Thank you for your wisdom and your willingness to share it with the lesser schooled masses. I like the Carcano and I have a passion for the DeLisle Carbine. But I'd suggest that everyone playing the game should find the weapon that's fun for them. Don't be constrained by those who disdain this or that weapon. But it might be wise to ask yourself why they do ... so you can become better informed.
