You are absoluely correct. I do the same thing. I put the games in my wish list and just wait to buy it when it's on sale. In the meantime I just my play my favorite games,
Yes, you are both 100% correct about getting it way cheaper when it's on sale & putting it on your wishlist (of which I do the same), but that's not the point. It still dosn't answer the question, of why an old game is more expensive than a new one in the first place?
The new SE5 is about $70 for the standard game, which means I would expect SE4 to be around $40 everyday, & about $25-$30 on sale. Yet SE4 remains at $85, which is $15 more expensive than the newer game.
Just to be clear, I have no objection to paying a lot for a brand new game, I expect that, but why should I pay EVEN MORE for an old game?.......just doesn't add up.
They didn't miss the point as they gave the correct answer which is to wait for a sale since the game will never have a price reduction. If they had reduced the price they would have done it at least 4 years ago. Its standard practice for most games to see a price reduction within its first year of release.
The devs just keep the initial price on the off chance someone buys the game rather than waiting for a sale.
Tell me, when was the last time you went to a car dealership to buy a new car for say $30,000 , then the salesman tries to get you to buy the same make & model car, but 5 years older (2017 model) for $45,000 , because he's got 10,000 of them sitting in a warehouse out back, just on the off chance you might want to buy one instead of waiting for a sale?
Short answer is: it dosn't happen.. As soon as the new model is released the older model is marked-down for clearance & quick sale to clear the lot for the new stock. FACT.
Now let's get back to the OP's original question of why SE4 is more expensive than SE5?....& no, waiting for a sale is not a "reason" it's a "reaction", there is a difference!
A typical reason may be: to recover costs during Covid (for argument's sake), or to fund programming for the new game or anything along those lines.
A reaction on the other hand, is something done in response to stimuli, just like when the doctor hits your knee with his little hammer, your knee jerks,.....a reaction. Or, if fuel prices are high at one gas station, but lower at another, you make a conscience decision to go to the cheaper one,.....a reaction to high prices.
So waiting for a sale to get SE4 cheaper, is a reaction to high prices, NOT a reason for it being high in the first place! Everyone around the world is paying more for fuel at the moment in reaction to the war in Ukraine. Are we all just supposed to stop using our cars & sit back & just wait for a sale on fuel?............
The OP's question still stands unanswered......
Today...over 1 year later. 6/1/2023 SE4 is $59.99 and SE5 is $19.99, both in the steam store. MAKES NO SENSE. I bought SE5 anyways, I'll let you know if its worth it.
Period
You might not, I certainly won't, but somebody will.
It’s probably not the best place to write this, but you can buy steam keys out of steam store lol.
And you’ll find SE4 for 5$.
