[SOLVED] DX12 issue - unable to launch game
Hi, I've being playing Sniper Elite 4 without any issue.

Last time I've played it was yesterday night. However this morning I tried to launch the game as usual and I got an error:

The file is damaged or missing...

D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Sniper Elite 4\bin\SniperElite4_DX12.exe

I have launched the "check and restore" option of the folder from steam pannel and it has found that there is a damaged file. So the program is trying to fix it by downloading the file again.

However after the loading it still fails and it launches another self-restoring of the file which ends in the same error message.

I'm thinking of unistall and reinstall the whole game, however I'm afraid of loosing the SAVEGAMES... can I save them in some way?

Thanks

Delete that folder.

Verify your game files again. Allow it to continue automatically.

If the configuration menu launches. I think you need to disable D3D12. I'm not posh enough to enable it, so I don't know what it does.:jokeofrogue:

I think dx12 has issues and that's probably why you're having difficulty. Sorry, I don't know the details.

Verify games files will not affect any save games.

If you copy and paste this into you Windows address bar and hit enter. You will see you Saved Game Folder (Sniper Elite 4).

%LOCALAPPDATA%

To back up your save. Copy and paste the Sniper Elite 4 folder into another folder.

I doubt you actually need to,even if you uninstall or reinstall the game. If you use the Steam Cloud? Saving manually is still the best option imo.:goodidea:

Hi thanks for the reply!

I'm not sure if I'm using steam cloud for savegames.... how can I check that?

In the steam browser: Steam Settings/Cloud (enable etc.)

Right click game title/properties/updates/cloud

You ought to check that it's enabled in both locations.

thank for the answer... I have cloud enabled, however it seems to be empty for that game.

It shows 0bytes stored from 128mb available.

So I guess the savegames are not stored at the cloud, I will check the folder of the game to see if they are somewere.

EDIT: the savegames are located here: C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Local\SniperElite4

It needs to be enabled in both locations. But nothing will be there until you enable it and save the game.

Many users prefer to disable it. And use :hack_the_planet: instead.

Anyway I have reinstalled the game, however it still doesn't work :(

I have oppened a support ticket to rebellion... I hope they could fix it

I cant disable it because It doesn't launch the initial configuration menu....

Thanks!!! that fixes the issue...

- reboot
- deleted Steam/userdata --> 312660 folder

Then verify the files again and the game could be launched at DX12 without issues.

So what was the 312660 folder??
Captain Black Jan 4, 2020 @ 6:46pm
It communicates with the cloud and your local save and holds your settings etc. It's rare but it can become corrupted and give problems similar to yours. app 312660 is what Steam calls the game.

Generally, if you ever do go in those folders. It won't be because your having a problem.

If you have any more issues, try it without DX12.
