Why did SE4's online multiplayer not survive?

There appear to be almost no players online in SE4 at any given time. Seems a shame, because it looks gorgeous, it runs brilliantly, the maps are epic, and there's a ton of multiplayer modes. I feel like gamers are missing out.

I only got SE4 some months ago so if you're one of the earlier players, I'd be interested to hear what happened. Why did everyone leave?

I haven't been able to test the netcode because there was no one to play against...

Of course SE4 is not a brand new game anymore, but its age can't be the whole reason. For example Unreal Tournament released in 1999 and still has a reasonable minimum of players. Not entirely a fair comparison because that's a multiplayer focused title that didn't have much of a campaign, but come on, we're talking 1999.

Maybe SE4 just isn't very well known? Did it have a tiny online player base to begin with?

unfortunately, Yes.sniper is not a popular game where very few people play.Unreal Tournament and Sniper Elite are two completely different games, they do not need to be compared with each other

I only mentioned unreal as proof that old games (of whatever kind) can still have players online, even really old ones. To avoid the "duh it's old now" response. Thanks for chiming in.

It depends on what time of day you want to play MP and by the way , you will not be able to play MP on SE4 with a Private profile , you will get kicked out by the server if the server admins are playing.
Just checked now and about 40 playing , also you can host your own MP game

Because it is their rules and their server , servers have nothing to do with Rebellon all though i think Rebellion does have 1 server , they like to read profiles , if you don`t like it well just host your own MP game ! not much difference as long as you get some to join .

I play co-op with a friend of mine. If you want to snipe people, maybe go play COD or Battlefield. They are full of griefing sniper ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. (shrug)

The MP with se4 , ok has not got thousands of players but it is still good and lots of new players playing ,
