planes over San Celini Island

Can the planes flying over the island be shot down, or I just wasting ammo? I can tag them, I can hit them and cause damage but I can't seem to take them down.

Nope, not once did I attempt to shoot down a plane (aside from the 2? plane "bosses").

Once you clear all enemies, they could be some extra points for the mission.
