Way to force-unlock character select in the campaign?

As I understand it you have to complete every mission with the boring default hero before you can use your unlocked/purchased characters.
Is there a way to bypass this? So regardless of completion status, always have the ability to select your character?

Solutions involving some tinkering, save editing or mods are fine by me if there's no straightforward way to do this.

Yes you copy & paste some one else`s Profile into yours , i don`t think the name goes with it but unsure, but it does not take long to run&gun through the Missions on cadet if you need things that bad
