When I get a game with "Sniper Elite" in its title, I expect to imagine myself a sniper, snipe enemies, snipe everything I see without any borders.
When its coming to sniping in SE4, you get 10 ammo and they make you do everything BUT sniping, encouraging you melee, pistol using and the likes.
Yet I understand the reason behind, developers messed "smart sniping" and "no sniping".
Whatever I say, ignore me, I have great fun playing with my friend duo so we become butchers and bring death without even hiding on elite difficulty mode.
Or just have a good old fashioned shootout and kill everything in sight that tries kill you.
None of that existed during WWII, where this game is set. The kind of Sniper Rifle you're imagining came into existance in the late '70s with rifles like the PSG1 and AWP.
Sniper rifles were still a new idea, having only become an accepted military weapon 20 years earlier. Scopes were extremely basic, most of them were limited to 3X or 4X magnification and weren't adjustable. Supressors were only just beginning to appear, and were extremely primitive and unreliable. The only effective silenced weapons fired pistol rounds, like the De Lisle carbine.
Integral silencers, yes, as in HDM, Welrod, Sten, Delisle Commando Carbine. And as Wolfey pointed out, all those firearms used pistol ammo. In fact, the Delisle Commando Carbine was designed to take Colt M1911 .45 Cal magazines.
I have to question whether you've even played the game. Basic silencers are already available for nearly all weapons, and there are integrally suppressed weapons like the Welrod, HDM and De Lisle Carbine.
Fun fact; .45 ACP was chosen because a standard .45 loading was subsonic, meaning the British war effort didn't need to create a supply system for a new subsonic calibre or loading and SOE Commandos could use pre-existing magazines and standard issue ammo.
I Will answer your question very easly click on my profile pic which will open my profile and if you scroll down you will see i have played sniper elite 4 for some time, hope this helps you finding out questions before you ask them.
