Solution: set you speaker settings in Windows control panel to Stereo! (and start the game)
I am now using the Binaural audio option with Reverb on High with Headphones and it sounds wonderful. Have fun!
Yeah it should work because it seems that SE4 looks at your Windows Audio settings to determine which audio options to show in-game.
Binaural audio in SE4 is also useful when playing on Auth/Auth Plus mode: https://gamedevlibrary.com/binaural-simulation-how-it-benefits-your-game-f0d21ca627e9
