Machineguns; do you use one?

I find myself curious as to how many players actually use the SMG and treat it as a major part of their loadout. I've heard widely different opinions, some newer players complaining that SMG play dominated their experience and others remarking that they don't even bother.

For my part, I've completely abandoned it for campaign mode and only use it for Survival. Normally I take an elevated position and pick off everybody I can before moving in and picking off any hidden stragglers, usually hiding in buildings. For that I find the Trench Gun a more dependable choice, paired with a Luger or HDM depending on the availability of supressed ammo.

I only play the single player stuff, but I consider the SMG's to be unworthy of my time. As it is, I have mastered 5 rifles, 2 pistols (silenced ones of course), and absolutely no secondary weapons although I am plodding along on the trench gun. If you plan things out properly the secondary weapon is only needed when you screw up royally or run out of ammo. I think they came up with the mastery system just to get us to use some of those weapons once in a while.

Mentioned in the other thread: nope. I hardly have even touched it. Though I've only actually mastered the one pistol and rifle, I've barely even bothered to unholster the third weapon. I have had some occasion for panic or low-ammo situations. But I don't rely on it at all.

I agree. I use a silenced pistol for close range targets, rifle with silenced ammo for medium-range targets, & rifle with regular ammo for long-range targets. As for anything else that I need to kill, I use traps &/or explosions. The SMG is of no use to me.
More emphasis is needed on the sniper rifle itself & it's customisation, like there was in SE3........such as stock, reciever, bolt, barrel, trigger, scope reticle, ammo selection (regular/suppressed/AP).
After all,.......this IS a sniper game.
