It also depends on how much you go talking to characters because I do remember I enjoyed talking to the characters in both towns because the towns actually have a reasonably interesting culture to them. If you really take your time and try and enjoy the game and explore everything and talk to everyone it's easy to take over 20 hours, but it's definitely not an epic long RPG.
And I agree with the comment about being able to listen to the OST forever. Ark of Napishtim has a really good soundtrack and the boss battles are really fun. MIghty Obstacle is one of the better regular boss themes. This game was the one that definitely got me totally addicted to the series even if it wasn't my first Ys game (my first was SNES Ys 3).
I am really looking forward to finally playing Ys VI (I had the PSP version, but that was unplayable, and I could never find the PS2 version). Especially since I just finished Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, which wrecked my life in terms of time. ♥♥♥♥ got so exhausting, hahaha. Gonna be so nice to play a smaller JRPG after that.
