RAIN WORLD v1.51 OPEN BETA
Hello friends and slugcats!

As many of you know, since the release in March we’ve been hard at work on a big update for Rain World that will include new difficulty modes, multiplayer and a bunch of other cool stuff. It will be coming out very soon, but before we release it “officially”, we’d like to let all you grizzled slugcat survivors take it for a test run and see if any weird bugs (of either the edible or computer kind!) pop up and cause trouble.

AKA: WELCOME TO THE RAIN WORLD v1.51 OPEN BETA

To access the beta, right click on the game in Steam, go to Properties → Betas, and enter “MANYSLUGCATS” into the beta key field. You should then be able to select the beta branch and download the new build!

Main new features include:

New playable characters, corresponding to different playstyles and difficulty:

THE MONK - “Weak of body but strong of spirit. In tune with the mysteries of the world and empathetic to its creatures, your journey will be a significantly more peaceful one.”

THE HUNTER - “Strong and quick, with a fierce metabolism requiring a steady diet of meat. But the stomach won’t be your only concern, as the path of the hunter is one of extreme peril.”
A large bestiary of strange new creatures to eat and be eaten by.

New Multiplayer arena modes:

COMPETITIVE - Up to 4 player competitive mode. Catch bats and spear creatures and each other for points. Players can choose from rooms that have been unlocked from finding yellow level tokens in the single player campaigns. Wildlife will populate these rooms depending on which creatures have been unlocked from discovering blue creature tokens.

SANDBOX - Up to 4 players, put together custom scenarios using rooms, items and creatures unlocked from the single player campaign. Creatures and items can be placed in a room as desired and then played through with a various point values, etc, attached. This mode is to experiment and learn about the behaviour of creatures players encounter in the world.

Plus of course new secrets, strangeness, and hopefully a generally smoother Rain World experience. Feel free to use this thread to talk about the beta and let us know if anything goes wrong!

(Happy hunting!} ʕ●.●ʔ

For somebody who has already finished Rain World, do you feel like it's worth from a replayability standpoint to start again as the hunter? How about the monk?

Monk is pretty much the same as regular, just much easier, though I haven't checked if the dialogue is different yet. Hunter has some pretty radical changes so I'd definitely recommend checking it out.

Pretty shocked to see the changes in Hunter. Feels like I'm playing the game for the first time - it's miserable!

Ohh, good question.

The Monk is basically a nerfed version of the original game for those who were looking for that sort of thing. It's not quite just "an easy mode" though, as we intended it as more of a different type of play style, and using that perspective to show some new things in the game, including new lore.

The Hunter however is almost an entirely new (and extremely challenging) game mode, with new lore, moves and an aggressive bestiary to experience with quite a few new creatures. Its intended as a bit of a tie-in, so it is spoiler-gated for those who haven't completed the original Survivor arc (White slugcat).

If anyone has issues with that last bit let me know, as we have easy ways to go around that.

Any chance of this being available on GOG?

I've already been through most of the main game and killed many of the creatures I've encountered, should I only have the two lizards and only the first 4 or 5 levels unlocked?

This game is hard and fun, but... can you fix the FPS in the cutscenes and main menu, pls?? FPS is very low.
