More Slugcats Mod

Here's a new mod I made for Rain World. It adds five new playable slugcats into the game, each with their own unique playstyles and abilities.

The new slugcats are:

The Spearmaster

• Can carry up to three spears at once.
  
• Can recover spears that are stuck in walls.
  
• Can only progress towards hiberation by stabbing creatures.

The Gourmand

• Can pull infinite objects from its stomach void.
  
• More likely to survive being bitten.
  
• Requires significantly more food. 7 food to hibernate, up to 11 food total.
  
• More susceptible to fall damage.
  
• Gets tired easily.

The Rivulet

• Can breathe underwater.
  
• Agile, and extremely athletic.
  
• All cycles are half their normal length.

The Artificer

• Can explosively transmogrify some objects in its belly.
  
• Has a reduced susceptibility to explosions.
  
• Can boost itself further during a jump with a bang.
  
• Its body is extremely reactive to water.
  
• Is the arch rival of the scavengers.

The Saint

• Cannot eat meat of any kind.
  
• Cannot carry or use weapons of any kind.
  
• Is very fragile. Can be killed by several creatures that are normally harmless.
  
• Loses all karma on death.
  
• Has a long tongue it can use to grip onto things.
  
• This slugcat is the perfect vessel to recieve karmic enlightenment.

Nooo! Those are almost the same as the 2 new slugcats the devs were going to add only with supernatural and OP abiltiies! Agh!

But I'll admit, it looks cool. After the 2 official new slugcats are added, and I play them both, I might just use this mod. Until then, no.

tbh the only one similar to the two new slugcats is maybe the spearmaster, similar to the pink slugcat, due to being able to carry about 3 spears

To anyone who has downloaded the mod already, you should download the new version (1.3) that's up on RainDB now. These last few patches to the mod fix some big problems, especially with the Saint and Spearmaster slugcats. (Such as the Spearmaster not gaining food from most creatures that die in one hit, or the Saint not being able to increase their max karma anymore if they did a certain thing, or the Saint being able to get stuck in Sky Islands due to a lack of food)

As for the next official Rain World update... I purposely avoided making any Slugcats that were clones of the ones that are coming in the update because I didn't want to step on the developer's toes. There's no overlap at all between any of these slugcats and the new Yellow (easy mode) slugcat. Spearmaster has a bit of overlap with the new Red (hard mode) slugcat, but there's still plenty of differences. Like the red slugcat can only prey on big creatures (versus Spearmaster who can prey on any creature), reverts your map progress on death, stops karma flowers from spawning, and most importantly, many of the new creatures coming in the update are only going to appear when playing with the red slugcat. Also, the Spearmaster in my mod isn't hard mode at all... it's actually one of the easier of these five slugcats to play through the game with.

(Actually, Spearmaster is a reference to an early mod that was made not too long after the game was released. It was called Grapecat, a purple slugcat who could carry three spears)

Great work! There are some very unique slugcat ideas in here, and I love the design of the Rivulet.

this are really great, Thank you, do you know if there is anyway to play these mod, along with the rain world coop mode, it would be great playing this mod with a friend. I know it would not be balanced but it sure would be fun lol

I won't add multiplayer support yet. However, when the official update comes out and I port the mod to the new version, I may consider adding multiplayer support then depending on how hard it is to do so.

Do you think it would be possible to change the images of the cutscenes with the slugcat to match with the current slugcat we play as?

I would have to edit a hell of a lot of images to make that happen... that's a little too much work. Maybe I can at least edit the sleeping slugcat image on the karma ladder screen between cycles. We'll see.

Yeah, I'd expect it to be difficult, though it would be interesting.

I've been holding the bubblenut/fruit before when it randomly pops open, without being in water. I was the Rivulet. Could this be one of their abilities?
