Has anyone ever heard of a game by TSR called Divine Right?
this game looks similar to it , it was played on a paper map with cardboard counters and was published back in the early 1980's . this is the first time I have ever seen a pc game that reminded me of it and I am curious if it might be inspired by it. it is not a well known game but it was incredibly entertaining.Me and my friends would play it for 12 hrs sometimes on a weekend when I was a kid. We'd start in the early afternoon and finish by 3 am before someone won the game. good times. it is uncanny how the map on this game looks like it. Even the terrain on it.

One of my son's friends set a sweating beer on the box and I started speaking in tongues, spinning my head until the can was removed. One game back in high school lasted 27 hours of continuous play. If you can, find it, play it and be in awe. You won't regret it.

I read another person saying that the game looked much like ''Wizard Kings'', it was also a cardboard from the same time.

I honnestly don't know, but those games look neat!

Wizard Kings , I'll have to google it. I've actually seen a copy of Divine Right for sale for over 150 bucks in mint conditiion. of course it's so old they don't make it anymore , no more TSR for one thing.

Wizard Kings is still available it was last published in 2013 , Divine right is from the 80's. Sovereignty doesn't look all that much like it's based on it but the art work is similar. Units are different and wizards and spells are front and center in 'Wizard Kings' . looks kinda cool but not a pc game either.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divine_Right_%28game%29 here it is , the wiki on it. I know it looks dated but in my memory it was one heck of a game. First one of it's kind I ever played and got me into historical wargamiing.

http://www.divinerightonline.com/game_play.html apparently there is a small group of nostalgic gamers that made an online version of it. This game would be amazing to see on Steam in a professional form. It was really something. You couldn't stop playing until you took over the whole map and defeated everyone, it was that fun.

One last link , I actually found a map of the game first time I've seen it in over 30 years. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2kYwUiN0p5M/TDtcnoxG-ZI/AAAAAAAAAEg/QkBonsV-Jlc/s1600/minaria.jpg smaller than I imagined.

Never played DR but Sword of Aragon still sticks with me. Would love to see a remake of that game with a more expanded map. The detail to economics, making units and equipting them, and the random events really set a bar rarely seen in games today.

It was one of the best games I have ever played in my life. You are totally right. I would love to see it done on PC.

Worthington Games is publishing a new edition of the Divine Right boardgame. It's up for preorder and is expected to be available in the fall. Looks like a pretty faithful update of the original game.
