Character customization?

As far as I know right now it's just the one guy (his name is Daltyn).

There was a Kickstarter goal for a gender swapped character but it wasn't met.

Daltyn is the only playable character in the game. Weapons can be customized visually with elemental gems, but armor is not.

they said no, cuz didnt get point on kickstarter. But i believe, maybe, as dlc...

geez, atleast give us color cutomization for hair and skin.
im fairly sure adding a different hairstyle and chest piece design for female avatar sprites wont kill ya either.

Pretty tired of games that force me to play male characters without a choice, it's 2016 now, come on :(

The game may force you to play as a male character, but you are not being forced to play the game. Every game does not have to conform to your views on how all games should be.

Yeah, it's one of "those" posts. But seriously, if it really bothers you that much, just move along and play something else. Whining about it won't change a damn thing.

You're entitled to your opinion!
There's little point in allowing me to rename a character if it's a character I don't want to play.
Changing a sprite to add gender takes a few hours at worst, and not doing so because of a stretch goal is pretty much a really sad cash grab.
Also if you don't agree with my comment, you're free to move along and not whine about it, I'm free to give my opinion and will do so :).

Right now Daltyn has over one hundred hand-drawn animations, and introducing a new character would require redoing all of them. I'm guessing it's over 600 individual frames of animation, which is weeks if not months of work. Early on we chose a more fluid animation style which has proven to be very difficult to use even with layering equipment since the characters turn their bodies. Good sprite animation can look unique and amazing, but it has a lot of limitations, and unfortunately in some cases technology does not make things any easier or faster.

You're right. I apologize for the "whining" comment. I'm too quick to react on steam forums, it seems.

That said though, it sounds like the story is based on the character being who he is, so allowing him to be a her maybe would not fit with the overall story? Sure, you can make the argument that since you can change the name and it doesn't affect the story, the same could be possible for the sex. I don't know. that's just the way the dev wants it, so all we can really do is accept it or give the game a pass.

I suppose those sorts of things don't seem important to me in a game like this, as the main draw for me will be the exploration and combat, not so much the story or relating to the character in some way. I can see why that may not be the case for everyone though.
