Sailwind may be nice but is irrelevant as an alternative.
I know that game is more fantasy than realistic, and not what we actually wanted from the beginning. But its a new sailing/pirate game, and I think some need a break from NA.
Still not close, Naval Action still retains realism even with your opinions.
At Naval Gaming, there are quests, ranks and medals to be achieved outside of Naval Action, based on activities in Naval Action.
