Developers arrogance
Badly thought out foundation for MMO
Developers lies
Updates that disrupt instead of enhance play
New player experience and tutorial
No reset of world to avoid dominance
Pay to win DLC
Overpriced DLC
Overpowered DLC
Banning decent on forums
Travel times
Boredom
Weak trading system
Grind
NPC's operating under different rules
A massively huge lifeless ocean
No real ability to solo play
I could go on...that is my short list.

The division of pvp/pve the game should cater to both on desired terms. engine is good gameplay is good the rest needs an adjustment

Time and ganking. The combat system works very well. It has gamey issues when abused with OP rare wood ships stacking OP mods but overall it is a lot of fun.

That said, the tagging system allows for one side to stack battles against opponents where if you get tagged or tag an opponent ALL of your buddies can join in for 2 minutes and up to 20 minutes if your collective BR is less than your opponents. IF a player who is being tagged by a group of players manages to escape, he just gets tagged again and again after the battle. Most players enjoy the thrill but its really taxing to have battles last an hour plus just to be retagged after the battle. For those of with an hour or two to spare, this game just doesn't work. Ships worth a flip are costly and easily lost. The game system makes it very hard to save an expensive ship to a determined group of gankers.

Some way to place escaped boats at the location they sailed to when the left the battle rather than rubber banding back to the initial location of the battle would not only be more immersive and fair to the escaping ships but also avoid having the tagging players locate the battle and sit outside just waiting to retagg the same opponents. The art of tagging and ganking turns me off from PvP. I suspect this is true for a lot of players. I have been on both ends of this tagging mini-game. But the game gets stale when is based around ganking instead of somewhat even battles. Noncompetitive battles are just boring and this whole game is built around them.

Yep that's the root of the problem the attitude of the team behind the game, it shines trough in every asp[ect of the game and outside.

The reason is simple, they had promised to save the progress before launching on steam, but they finally made a total wipe. I had pre-ordering the game, and survived two wipes, the third one finished me off. But they lied ... The craft and career experience had to stay, as well as the knowledge books ... We were 2500 in game ....

The game has not had over 2500 peak players since April 2016. Before it went to full release in June 2019 it had on average 700-790 peak players online, that's less than it does now. Although it did manage a post launch peak of 1,941 in Feb 2021.

No game maintains is popularity over many years, that's just a fact of gaming. People move on to other games, or rl gets in the way. There is nothing unusual about falling player numbers in NA. Sure the odd patch may be a catalyst for some players moving on, but they would have cleared off sooner or later anyway.

I do not agree with this one.

Constant changes in game mechanics post launch has been well known for upseting player base in any game.
Some minor tweeks are expected in the following months post launch, but the level seen in Naval Action is just poor management, considering this game went thru Early Access for several years.
Are you trying to suggest those players would never have left if there had not been patches they disagreed with? Was never going to happen, sooner, or later, they would have moved on regardless.

Others continue to play despite the changes, why are we still here? That was rhetorical, why, because we are still generally happy with the state of play and there is enough to keep us coming back. However, when we do eventually get bored, and we will, we will move on too. It may be for a break, and we come back later, or we may never bother with it again.

How many online games do you have in your catalogue that you never consider going back to? All games, even the once mighty WOW have a shelf life, NA is no exception.
