Premium DLC ships don't come with crew you need? Correct?
Read all the reviews and was wondering how could you get a full crew if you didn't level up?
And I would think it would be best for players who know how to sail and fight (at the same time).
Obvious a Ship-of-the Line isn't any good with half or 3/4 crew.

Your crew is tied to your level.

You cannot crew the DLC HMS Victory if your character level does not provide 800 crew.

They dont come with crew, guns, skill books open and it is random the number of perk upgrade slots you get.

Your best bet is to do the tutorials. Believe me I have ranked up to Admiral 4 times now while playing this game. This last time I am taking it slow only a commodore after a year back.

Yeah I gathered from experience it is SLOW and steady. For me there is no reason to buy a big ship with not enough crew and not enough experience to 'run' it properly against PVE AI or PvP.
Thanks all for your clarification.

Put the DLCs on your wish list and if/when they go on sale you can think about it. Usually there is a Spring sale so in a couple of months.. I can only crew a Redoubt at present so I only have that and not the Victory.

IMO (and appreciate others will see it differently) the only DLC I think is truly worth the cost is the Redoubtable. It's just so versatile. I have one that is BC/T that can dance around with 5th rates, another Loc/Sab that's tough enough to line fight and a third that is T/WO for regular play against equal opponents.

Honourable mention to the Hercules - I just really love that little ship.

actually the Redout and Vic are the DLC that are worth to have becouse you can loose them in PvP without bothering about it and not loose expensiv ships that are hard to build and lots of million reals worth expecially with the new rare wood types.

If you like to get some DLC for the Convenience of a Stable Ship Availability when not in a Clan and new to the Game. Start with Smaller Ships, a 5th Rate such as the "Hercules", or even "Le Requin".

Do not forget that all nations can Capture Ships so this can be your bread and Butter in the beginning stages of the game. I captured several ships the first day I played and so I could thus afford to lose ships if I lose as I played on I replaced them slowly with bigger designs. While you will always keep some 7th and 6th rates no matter your rank.

One thing I love about this game is that as a Sandbox-RvR game all ships have a use forever in specific tasks, and it is not a linear leveling progression going only for bigger and bigger and forgetting the smaller ships.

By the way it is nice to know that some people here are Sailing Under Crew, this could make for some nice PvP rewards and Missions. Maybe I should try to engage and if not under crew flee. ;) I am being snarky here hahah, but on the PvP server it is a risk sailing under crew guys.

I think patience is a virtue in a game such as this, but then again, to each their own ;)

While it doesn't help when seeing an enemy on the open sea, you can tell when someone is under crewing a ship by clicking the swords while they are in battle. The BR of the ship they are sailing will be lower by a % based on the amount they under under the crew req.
