I don’t really agree that all ships now in game have too little diversity. Its just that the lines are generally lower then ships from the 17th century.
Ships from the 17th century are much shorter and have a high profile and should be sitting ducks in comparison. There was quite a lot of advancement during the 18th century. Sure it might not be apparent for any one that is not a history buff. But why not cater to the history buffs?
It's still a game.
Historical?
like the repairs in combat for example?
Come on, a ship that served almost well into the 17th century is a problem for you.
but the unrealistic and historically incorrect game mechanics are ok?
the wapen has a old profile too and its ingame.
I don't know what sources you have, you can send me a link, but my sources roughly summarize the ships between the 16th and 18th centuries.
I understand that nobody wants ships that are too old or too modern.
Sure its a game and should be played as a game. Immersion is not necessarily the need to make a hard core sim.
Wapen is not really that good either. It turns well but its easy to hit.
As for sources i don’t have any that summaries three centuries. That is a really big time frame to summarise and sounds like wikipedia. But please post your source.
Three sources that comes to
mind regarding the advancement of ships in 18th century would be:
French Warships in the Age of Sail, 1786–1861: Design, Construction, Careers and Fates / by Rif Winfield, Stephen S Roberts
Six Frigates: The Epic History of the Founding of the U.S. Navy / by Ian W. Tol
F. H. Chapman : the first naval architect and his work / by Daniel G. Harris.
"Wapen is not really that good either. It turns well but its easy to hit."
but it is still in the game even if you personally don't like it.
The "Soleil Royal" has a very similar structure.
I think there will be no solution here.
Everyone has their own opinion.
We'll see what the developers will bring in the future.
I still hope for more diversity.
Rif Winfield: British Warships in the Age of Sail, 1714 to 1792
Rif Winfield: British Warships in the Age of Sail: 1793–1817
French Warships in the Age of Sail 1626 - 1786
I like Rif Windields work.
Regarding ships technology level, I’d agree to disagree. We are entitled to our own opinions.
But I would rather se a focus on more diversity in the ships that we have. Like every second trinc thatis crafted could be in the paint of HMS Shannon, or HMS Unicorn. Maybe have the same with the Redoubtable, have her come out as a sister ship every now and again.

in the past it has been said that the devs have a timeframe of what ships they are happy to have in the game, but because of advancements in technology/construction, they dont really want to add any ships outwith those time frames, as they want the ships themselves to be as accurate as possible. So they arent really interested in having a more modern ship, with an inaccurate modified design, just to bring it into line with the rest
