Naval Action

Player Advice on Le Requin or Hercules (& Admiralty)
So I am a new player. Getting my sea legs first on PVE. The reviews are mixed on these DLC (updates, etc).

Current suggestions for PVE privateering, EXP leveling, and some basic mercantile action with these DLC's. Preferences. Player feedback appreciated (other ship suggestions are open, but trying to keep the budget low but smart).

Thanks!

Do Tutorial-Exams (partly tough). Do cargo/passenger missions (Indiaman). Get Aquillas documentation. Get xp in battles. You don't really need DLCs.
PS: the Herc is a nice agile workhorse, imho. The Requin real fast and good for hunting and boarding weaker ships

I personally hate the Le Requin in its current form and don't think it represents a good value. Some captains obtain good expertise with it and using a really tricked out ship with the best mods and are able to participate in many scenarios. However, in general the Le Requin is not good sailing downwind. Almost any square rigged ship can run away downwind. And the Le Requin can run away upwind from almost any situation. So battles involving the Req are often just about one side running and the other chasing. The Le Requin can be beneficial when hunting with another player who is in a square rigger. I like the Hercules. As someone said, it's a good workhorse warship in the shallows and an effective hunter against trade ships.

And so the discussion becomes indicative of the reviews. Pro VS Con (or at least on the Requin). Its real fast and good for hunting, but has awful tracking? Its good for solo hunting down lesser targets, but you need a buddy to compensate for its awful tracking...

As a relative solo-ist (for now), assuming the Admiralty would be a good idea, or not worth the money?

The Herc is a better solo hunter than the Le Requin. The Snow and Prince, both readily and relatively inexpensively available from player crafters, are quite potent as solo hunters. Even tho the Herc outguns them and has more crew (for boarding), they make up for it in maneuverability, agility, and speed.

Thanks. So... doing transport missions... how can you, when it seems that the missions ask you transport to another nation's port... of which it "seems" is an enemy port (are all "other nation ports" enemy ports?)?

Saw on a video that you can enter other nations ports if you are in a trade ship, but I guess you'll have to think about the risk of sailing in a relatively under-gunned ship in enemy waters if a player decides to attack

If you are playing on PVE atm you can enter any port regardless of nation, you cannot be attacked on PVE.

Any time you undock on the PVP server you’re incurring some risk and sailing into enemy waters compounds this. However, the trader lynx is a fairly adept blockade runner as long as you do not sail AFK and plan to enter particularly dangerous areas under favorable wind conditions. Good luck.
