Naval Action

Exp gain is to 'Fast' for lower ranks.
I got to say this is prob one of the best games i have played in awhile and certainly has the potential to be a very good MMO. Now i know this game is still in alpha and most likely alot will change and improve, however, the one thing i would really like to see change is the amount of exp gain for low ranks. Its to 'fast'. There are only 7 ranks of ships and i really dont want everyone to grind asap just to get a bigger ship as this will get boring when the vast majority are sailing rank 4+ ships.

Ther lower ranks add a differant way of battling and are great fun so i would like to see it EXP gain slowed down alot so there are more ppl playing the lower ranks in the long run, this also gives players a good amount of time to get use to gameplay and how to fight properly. I only started the game a couple days ago so im not sure on what the EXP is like at higher ranks so i cant comment on that.

Anyone else agree with me?

I see it different at the moment, i find it pretty brutal for lower ranks to get some more variety in ships. Remember that people who start this new will also not perform that well -> lower exp gain. I rather have cutters stay viable later on due to their roles...

Having said that, i hope there will be Xebec's in the game and much more diverse ships that excel at certain roles more specific and fail completely at others rather than punishing people so the higher ranks have cannonfodder.

Typical, i have level up now i want it slower so everyone takes longer to get to my level kind of attitude, no i thnk leveling is fine the way it is, they should add the group bonuses back to encourge fleet play and grouping up.

This is EA and the developer mentioned already that is possible that they change exp tables for ranking. I guess they do that if they think its necessary but atm i think its fine like it is atm. It would be a problem if anyone can reach max rang in 2 weeks or something like that. So if they add exp gaining for groups they should re-adjust exp needed for levels, because this will add a much higher exp gain in common and fasten the progress too much, this game should not be finished after 2 weeks, it should take years (like in EVE Online )

No & No.

Playing the Cutter is just run up, and blast them with your cannonade. That's is, that's all you do, for several hours before you can access your other ships which actuelly allows for some sort of "real" naval combat.

This dosnt change in the future.
You will always run up and blast a enemy away, this is not limited to the cutter. "Real" naval combat will only be PvP with bigger Fleets and you can do the same with cutters, it just looks better with a bigger ship. This game is not a "standart" MMO where you try to level up as fast as possible and than start progression. This is a sandbox game. If you dont have fun at sailing and blasting stuff out of the water this is the wrong game for you. Sure some thinks are easier with bigger ships but it dosnt change the system

Yeah some idiot complained earlier saying he spent 30 minutes firing cannons , erm yeah its a naval combat game

So you go full kamikaze with ships that you can actuelly lose? The Gameplay videos I've seen doesn't even compare with the "Small Battles", where you just try & score enough damage to get 80 exp or something before you're sunk.

Let me get this straight. You want the progression to be slowed down so that it will take longer for OTHER people to get to your level? That's really stupid.

The progression is already slow as hell. The grind with the Cutter is insane. There's no sense of progression whatsoever.

This would also work, finding who to implement the smaller ships at later stage game would be a good idea.

Not at all. im almost 1st Lt and that was only in 1 & 1/2 days, also im sure there are plenty of ppl that got alot higher. im currently sailing a snow and wish that i was still 'only' able to sail rank 7 ships. For me being able to go from rank 7 to rank 5+ in a couple days for me is too fast as the smaller ships get forgotten about. Thats all there is to it.

Does anyone know what's the current xp needed for each rank? I am currently level 4 (first lt.) and only need 5000 xp to reach level 5, which shouldn't take too long. I mean I can get like 300 xp per mission/battle so it's like 15-18 missions, 20 minutes per mission, so that's level up in a few hours. Will the higher ranks require much more xp? I have only dedicated about half or less of my playtime to ranking up so far, but so far it seems that it would be possible to get the highest rank in a few days or a week, if I would invest enough time into it.

Thats what i mean, i could prob be able to hit the high rank ships within a week. Thats too fast in my eyes.

it looks like this (just a guess not confirmed information:
Crew Exp(next rang)
40 1000
60 1000
120 2500
150 5000
200 10000
250 20000
350 50000
650 75000
800 100000
1100 max

Thanks, it's also interesting to know how much xp you will gain at higher ranks. Because higher ranked missions seem to give more xp which also counts for battles. When I needed 1000 xp to level up, I would make roughly 100 xp for one battle/mission. When I needed to get 2500 xp, I could make up to 300 xp per mission/battle. So basically, if it stays like that, for example if I could make 500 or more xp per battle/mission when I need 10000 xp then it doesn't really take longer to gain that rank than any other rank.

I found it brutal and a fair bit repetative, maybe they could add a button to change the xp gained so those of you who want can lag behind in your odd enjoyment crisis.

Depends on how much time your playing, if your on for hours a day then yes you will " level' up faster. But for those who get 2 hours or less a day it's a lot harder.

They have to consider the amount of time the average game player has to spend on the game daily to determine XP requirements to advance.

They have also stated they plan to add more ranks and possibly lower level ships to spread out the variety.
