Does it matter wich faction you join?

Are there any differences between them and if you choose 1, will you be for ever stuck with your choice?

I was personally looking forward joining the Dutch or the pirates.

yes you will be stuck with one faction altough you can always go pirate afterwards, please refer to this thread as this topic already up. maybe lock this one as well.

All factions are the same (at the moment) all have access to the same ships etc. The only difference gameplay wise is their starting location where some have it easy (US) and some have it absurdly hard (Sweden).

Read that link TrackTerror posted it outlines it all.

Best tip I can give you - don't go pirate straight away as everyone will be jumping you.

Yeah Pirates are being tormented by the British at the moment. Its really not a good idea to go them.

Mr.Ukle, I was planning on going with Sweden when this got released on Steam, could you explain why Sweden has it hard?

Sweden has:

Only 1 port
Its neighbouring Port is the Capital of the Danish - who have a large player base (Russians, Germans etc)
It also has the French Capital only a 'short' distance to its south

They have a good player base, but it really is an uphill challange for them.

Going through the screenshots being posted, I'm not seeing many American flagged vessels...trying to decide if I should go UK or US.

Pirates are perfectly fine. The British that are just drunk on hubris after capturing a few far away settlements.

The US just starts off a bit isolated, if you're looking for American flagged ships though, I have a few of my pre-wipe Constitution :P
