Just another MMO?

Will this game remain just another droplet in the vast ocean of MMOs or will there be singleplayer without the need of an internet connection?

People have been waiting years for a new open-world age of sail game that EVERYONE can play instead of just the online elites, will this game change that in future?

I guess Age of Pirates/Sea Dogs still remain the one and only for the time being, the wait continues...

There's no roadmap or details of future plans on the store page and the game's homepage takes forever to load or gets blocked (might be my restricted connectivity access).

If there are no plans to add singleplayer in future, can you at least start a private offline server for LAN or solo play?

It's easy to just join a PvE server and turn off chat but, you still need a fixed internet connection to do so. Not everyone has that luxury and, even if you do, you do not always have access to it.

As far as I'm aware there are no plans for any of those things. Understand that not having constant/reliable net access is a pain but it's unlikely that devs will divert resources to a single player/offline version, especially this early in development.

This a MMO in the first place and not a single-player game. If You don't like PvP You can play on a PvE server. But for trading. crafting and port-battles You need other players and its also more fun!

I would recommend Sea Dogs: To Each his Own...

Refurnished version of Age of Pirates by a Russian developer team, also translated recently into English.. should be exciting for your interest..

Ah well, it was worth asking since the game is still in Early Access, you never know what the future may hold!

I will be at home for almost a month in June, maybe I'll join you guys for a few battles then, this game still looks awesome.

And thanks for the heads-up on Sea Dogs but, I already have it. I have been playing the Storm engine games (Age of Pirates/Sea Dogs) since 2003 so, it feels very "been there done that" by now, the very reason why I am here looking for something new that I can play anytime. AC Black Flag was not it either, hence my mention that AoP/Sea Dogs seems to remain "the one and only" (nothing else like it, others are either MMO-only or too simplistic).

The Dev's have bizarrly said they do plan to add a Single player offline mode, after the game is fully released. Note that wont be for years away, so really if you are after a off line age of sail game then look elsewhere for the time being.

PvE server though is a good solution, if you always have an internet connection though - but the game really is built around PvP.

Yea the new version of Sea Dogs is slightly different than engine version.. I haven't tried it yet but I ought to buy a copy sometime this month..judging by videos and pics a lot of variations between this one and the Pirates Ahoy community download ones (GOF kicks azz btw)

@OP this is an mmo.. and thats it.

There are other age of sail games that are catering for the single player market.. errm I cant remember what its called off the the top of my head it has oak in the title but that might be what you are looking for.

@Caldrin: That would be Hearts of Oak, a non-commercial community project by the Pirates Ahoy! community. It's currently in a very early pre-alpha proof of concept phase, it looks awesome and very detailed from the look of the tech demos though.

The only other worthwhile age of sail games available is the Storm engine games (Age of Pirates/Sea Dogs) and maybe AC: Black Flag, the rest are all MMO.
