map plotting
Does anyone know if there's any development in progress for placing multiple markers on your map? It would just be nice to be able to plot your location, place a marker there, and zoom out to see your position relative to land. Right now you just plot your position and eyeball it as you zoom out. Especially problematic in the middle of the ocean with no land reference.

Well the grid system with your co ordinates posted up on top left works pretty well. It is pretty hard to get lost if you zoom in to the grid and use the posted numbers to locate your postion.

Remember that before the grid there was nothing. If you did not havea good idea where you were at sea or used land based markers as way points you got lost for hours.

It isn't perfect but works well enough to make port safely.

Oh I know, and I do appreciate the grid/coordinate system. It's just that early sailors could actually plot courses on their map. I would just like the opportunity to do the same.

They did for sure on the maps as they sailed and took readings.

It sounds like you want to plot a course on the map so your ship can follow it and you be afk. Takes away from the experience of having to do manual corrections as they did once taking sightings by the stars.

I suppose that is ok as it would give the rest of us more afk ships to plunder :)

No, nothing like that. I can already point my ship in a direction and go afk... I don't want "autopilot"

I just want to be able to look at my grid coordinates, click on the map to put a marker down, and be able to see my course/position with a physical point. Especially if you look at your position, glance at a nearby port, then have to find your position again on the map. Would just make everything easier if I can put a marker down.

That could be useful. It would be more useful if a nation could put nation viewable markers down with small tags showing enemy fleet spotted and direction that may last for 30 min at max. It might help spur more pvp if players can quickly spot an enemy and go hunting without asking in chat and not getting answers back.

A display of the latitude and longitude of each port would be extremely handy and it is something that sailors would know -- at least the freindly ports if not all of them.
