Best ship for solo raiding/hunting pirates
What do the steam forum users feel is the best ship to raid traders/hunt pirates solo?

If your just going after traders or small ships then the surprise is probably best. You need to ship that has a good turning right when you're trying to get up close to board as well as one that has bow chasers to tag the ship when it's running. I like the Renommee because it's fast but it lacks bow chasers.

I use the Endymion A lot for duels or battles against other frigates but I have trouble using it against trade shifts because of it's poor turning rate. Even with manual sailing sometimes it's difficult to make the tight turns you need to push up against the ship you're trying to board. .

If I had to choose one though I think surprise is your best bet

I also like the Surprise. You have bow chasers to slow down a runner and if you have to run, you have 4 stern guns to deter pursuit. Plus, although many ships are faster at their best point of sail, the Surprise can take multiple angles away from an enemy.

today i was surprised by the Endymion, she is very fast good amrory, i like the ship, especially for hunting imo.

Surprise and rennome are great ships, but for solo hunting i would prefer the Endymion, i guess.

I'm probably odd, but I'm quite happy with your basic everyday Frigate. Once a few hours have been spent practicing turning w/manual sails it's quite an agile beast with a good weapons load. There are, obviously, better vessels but at the moment this is what I can afford and so far in PvP there are 3 Trincs, one Connie and a Buc that underestimated a basic Frigate as well. ;)

My problem with the fridge it is the lack of bow chasers. And with the Endymion, it is not a very good turning ship. That makes it difficult to keep contact with the enemy ship for boarding purposes

Both are great ships it's just that I think the surprise is the best combination of everything. In the end, any frigate or corvette with Bow chasers will do the trick. I love the Essex, but without chasers, I rarely use it for capping traders. I use it for missions.

i absolutely agree, but the Endymion is the fastest ship and can outrun even couple of rennos alone....that makes it to me the best solo ship....just put the right upgrades in to balance the weakness, like turning.
Of course everyone has its own style, but i honestly really loved the Surprise for solo, the renno or the other shps i fnd them good , but nothing really maked me happy, the Endymion is for me almost the perfect ship, and imo the turning is balanced very good for that ship, because if it had better turning it would be unrealistic and OP, so gg dev's with this ship.

What's the American rank requirement for Endymion? Won't be able to get in game till Sunday.

I think the crew max is 350?. It's a 5th rate. You can buy it at any rank you like but you have to crew it. I'd bet you would do fine at Master & Commander

Surprise all around and then Endymion for pursuits and getting away from the trouble.
