screening?
So i got a surprise now and wanna participate in the screening forces in pbs and such. But ive never been to one so i have no idea how it works. Can anyone give me the basics? is it basically just sit in a perimeter around the pb and tag any large enemy fleet, then try to escape the battle?

Hi there, so, im no expert, but first you need to check where the port battle will be on the map screen. Usually people meet up near where it will take place and form groups, those who will screen and those who will do the port battle itself. The screening fleet is there to clear the way for the port battle ships. You do this by tagging and dragging into battle as many ships as possible. It would be a good idea to sail with an experienced screener at first who can show you what is and isnt a good tag. Once in the battle the idea isn't to run away but to keep the enemy engaged for as long as possible. This means chasing them down and tagging them to stop them escaping (which they usually try to do) This often means going up against much larger ships (I had a great fight with a pavel in my reno). There is a large possibility that you will be sunk so dont take a ship that you dont want to lose. Usually after a while you get the all clear, after the port battle has started and you can disengage and try to escape! Good luck!

You can also use screening to your advantage; instead of taking smaller ships take a constitution or bellona instead and go in group. Often you find enemies off guard and these are easy prey to catch and capture. Did this a while ago with my clan and we had a blast. Of course screening is more or less catching enemy ships to avoid them going to the PB. In this case you just go out there to hunt ships for yourself/your clan and perhaps avoid them getting reinforcements in the PB or outside the PB (to protect those ships inside PB). Great way to earn some extra XP, money and ships since i never participated in a PB but always participated in the 'screening' part.

Advantages are the safer environment you're in; since there's loads of friendly ships as well doing the same or screening. Don't forget; a lot of small ships together beat one big ship so never underestimate the power of smaller vessels!

For new Players, both Screeners (a good way to start) and heavier ships: Most Port Battles will be organized and directed on TeamSpeak. It is VERY important that before entering a PB, you have TS installed and working so you can hear the Battle Commander's directions, then maneuver as a Unit and in formation.

Players should be in TeamSpeak about one hour before the Battle begins. As "H-Hour" approaches, a senior Player will take charge, will move players to appropriate TeamSpeak channels (e.g. Screener Fleet 1 and PB Fleet 2) and will designate which ships will enter the Battle and which Screen.

PBs have absolute limit of 25/side. A player with a small ship uses a slot that could go to a top ranked ship. Any fleet ship takes a slot. Any Player leaving a PB hurts his team's score. All are bad form.

So, please do NOT enter a PB before listening on TS to the Battle Director's instructions. You may be asked to Screen if the PB is going to be 'full' of top ranked ships. Download TeamSpeak at: https://www.teamspeak.com/teamspeak3

For more info, consult with your Clan leader or ask for help in Nations Chat about an hour before the PB starts.
