Will 999 & Virtue's Last Reward be ported to PC as well?
So, you know, we can get the complete experience too...? Since these are the first two games of the Zero Escape series and all.

I actually played the DS version of 999 that was never released in Europe (except for some iDevice port that cut out all gameplay and only contained the story parts) and played Virtue's Last Reward on my Vita. But I doubt the majority of PC gamers has even heard of the previous two games in the series and that is just wrong. I even lend my Vita to my bestie, so she could play VLR after she finished 999 (she's only got a DS lite, PS3 and her PC).

A lot of stuff from VLR's story wouldn't have had as much impact if I hadn't played 999 before and I think this will be the case for Zero Time Dilemma as well, so I'm really hoping 999 and VLR will be ported to PC and released on Steam as well. I mean, come one, Computers have always been and will always be THE platform for point & click games. So, please, do it! :)

No confirmation. But the devs did hint at a possible PC and Home Console release when they confirmed the PC release date for the game a week ago.

I hope they do. I'd buy them if they did.
I hope the devs read these forums and consider it. Not only would I buy both again (VLR being already the third time), but I also have a lot of friends interested in the series, but would rather play them in order and don't have access to a portable console.

They already said that they are interested in doing it, but for that they want to see the success of Danganronpa and Zero Time Dilemma on Steam.

Danganronpa is already considered as a success, so... ;)

Just wait for the release of ZTD, 999 and VLR will surely come after.
(I think they are working with Mystery Chronicles: One Way Heroics for Steam at the moment, along ZTD)

I'll definitely "day one" this game to support the devs, but will hold back with playing until we get a yes/no for the other two games. I would absolutely love to play all of the games together with my best friend and my boyfriend (we always play point & click adventures together, talking about the story, trying to figure out the puzzles together... the only P&C game I played by myself in the past ten years was Broken Age and then I played it again with the two, because I liked it so much ;D).

But try to play a game with three people on a tiny DS/Vita screen, haha... very uncomfy!

I'm pretty sure they will. I'm just wondering how far they'll go with porting 999. The easy way out would be to just release the Novel version on PC. If they want to add the room escapes, they'll need to do some remastering. There's no way upscaling the DS graphics would end well.

I'd buy them. Ive 100% both games and I would do it all over again. I love these games.

They do foreshadowing well I think. Did anyone else catch what happens to Akane (in 999) when you make certain choices? ;)

Did the iOS version have better resolution for sprites and backgrounds? Otherwise the entire thing would need remastering. The final puzzle also seems like a toughie to do.

Yeah, it did.

It had higher resolution sprites, but they were static images, rather then animated. That would be another thing to consider.

They simply can't port the DS version of 999 to PC due to how plot essential the dual screen gimmick is to the game, they would either have to port the IOS novel version or not at all.

VLR on the other hand should be a much easier port.
Tentakeltier🦑 Jun 5, 2016 @ 12:39pm
Well... it's not like you can't simulate two screen in one PC game... dozens of games have done it in various ways. So there would be no need at all to get rid of the two screens for a PC port.

999 should still be harder to port than VLR, since its main twist (arguably the best plot twist in gaming history) NEEDS the two screens. I heard the iOS version didn't pull it off too well either.

Dual screen is not that big of an issue in terms of port (it is actually only somewhat relevant in last puzzle scene, rest of the game dont really "need" to use dual screen).
But low resolution can be much more of an issue i think. VLR had PSV release and psv resolution can be upscaled without much problems to 720p-1080p. While NDS has very low resolution... release proper ports of nds games is very hard (see crappy port of Ace Attorney trilogy which looks like ♥♥♥♥ in comparison to NDS version). Same goes with ios gameplay-less port of 999.
