UE4 KIWI GAME GAME HAS CRASHED-UNKNOWN FUNCTIONS
Alright everybody. I wanted to start a thread for the people with the "Unknown Function" crash on launch error. I'll post a picture of the crash error, and my dxdiag here. But I figured this issue is getting buried in the others and as I've been peeking at the threads I see there are very few of us with this issue. I'll be reposting the link to this thread in the general support thread for maximum exposure to this issue. Thanks! Dxdiag posts are helpful for the support team, especially in a situation like this. The dxdiag can get somewhat of a database going for the team on users with our issue. They can pan over our PC specs and recent crash reports and possibly come across consistencies, or inconsistencies. The details are greatly appreciated. Hey Guys!, Give Iceblade/Karasu a huge shoutout when you see them.

It's been a long while since I've posted anything here and it was only because, there really wasn't anything. Most of our initial thoughts were that the PC's with this issue, are just not quite up to par, and thus far has been the only reliable answer. To those with this error looking for answers, an upgrade may be your only option. For those who's PC's have this issue, but are up to SPEC: Make sure the error message you are recieving is the exact same as the one posted above, and if it isn't, then your problem may reside elsewhere. Thank you all.

This is crazy guys, to think that this is an issue that is still occuring is absurd. Even more so now that it's happening to users who were once able to play the game. I went into this, under minimum specs not really expecting to play the game, but atleast get to the main menu. This is really getting out of hand. I wish you guys the best. I will have a PC upgrade more than likely in the next 6 or so months so I'll fill you guys in on that when the time comes. Have a good one.
Hi it's me again.

Last time I installed a new GC (GTX970 strix), and reinstalled W10 from scratch. No success.

-> this does not come from the GC.

This time I upgraded ram from 1600 DDR3 8GB no name to 16go dual channel 2133 DDR3 Corsair.

-> this does not come from the RAM.

Still the same bug again and again. I tried everything, even with new keyboard, mouse, or screen. I unplugged everything unneccesarry and even necessary just to see.

Tried offline mode with unplugged router. Tried to hack the config and ini file with different values.Tried every possible combination of compatibility modes and/or Admin modes between different SFV.exe files and the steam launcher.

Tried to run the .distrib files within the game folder.

Even tried to put the game in "real time priority" using windows task manager ("Details" tab, right click on app, set priority : "real time" is the highest) just before the logo appears and then the kiwi crash thing. Nothing ever works.

The only thing I did not try is to mount a virtual machine with W7 on it to see if it works. If I have time I'll try this to check if the source isn't related to W10 + either Motherboard or HDD. Because it's really the ONLY hardware that I did not change.

-> So, this either comes from the motherboard (+/- proc ?) or the Hard drive.

If you want to upgrade your specs, try ASROCK motherboard ones, my best friend can play the game on it (but you'll have to buy another W10 licence because it's linked to the motherboard itself).

450++ euros and countless hours WASTED. The steam launcher is telling me that I've played 2 hours on SFV. Considering it just crashes seconds after launch, you can imagine how many hundreds of tries I've made so far.

I f ]_[ cking love street fighter series and fighting games in general. How is it that the last release of my favorite franchise cannot even be run several month after release ?

Do I have to waint until Linux version is out to play this ? I hate playstation devices from the beginning. Now way I am going to buy a PSCR4P. Even if someone offered me the console + SFV I'd throw it to the bin right away before setting it on fire.

Hear us capcom. Eternal shame on you for not finishing your game.
This is crazy. We need to get the attention of someone everyone can see like Maximilian so he can finally grab Capcom's attention. I wish there was someone here subscribed to him that could send him a message on twitch or something.

It's definately worth a shot at this point reading the message prior to yours. I was ( for a fleeting moment ) in contact with Combofiend ( Ex Pro Street Fighter player who now works for CAPCOM ) and even linked him the thread. Obviously I would have liked to see that work out, but he's got his own job to do. He replied asking for the link, and stating that he would forward it to the devs ASAP. If you ask me, since it's a steam thread and I was on the CAPCOM Unity site, I assume he may have forgotten about it.
Regardless, this business model of selling unfinished products is becoming extremely rampant, starting with Alpha titles ( And I mean if you complain about an alpha title being unfinished, you're being quite redundant. ) and has now worked it's way into the "TRIPLE A GAME" world. Since this issue, I had a similar one with the previously hyped game "Necropolis", which according to Gaming Media Outlets was supposed to be a fantastic product, but never launched for me.
I feel we've come to a point where Gaming Dev companies are having a hard time making ends meat ( Or competing with last years numbers at that ) so instead of pushing their deadlines and paying their whole roster for an additional 2 months, which would probably out the company a large wad of cash, they go to the loophole. The loophole being the consumer market where the product is practically GUARANTEED to be purchased. If there's anything more I can add to this it's that, while yes we may love and trust these companies, BE VERY WARY of what you are purchasing. DO NOT BE AFRAID of refunding an unfinished product. Above all, do not stand for this type of behavior or else other companies will take full advantage of it. While video games are an art form, I feel it's imperative that we the gamers put our foot down and say enough is enough. At the end of the day, it is our money that allows products like this to be released. Glad someone else is having this conversation, and even happier to partake in it.

Thanks and Take Care,
RuSe
Hi it's me again. I will try the virtual w7 machine thing during next days.

Just to let you know that I requested help from "Eventhubs" site, which is the ultimate ressource on the net for fighting games. They can really highlight this bug, catch the attention from CAPCOM and make things move forward.

I'm crossing my fingers right know, but when the FGC is involved, it can pass the highest of obstacles.

Have a nice week-end anyhow.

EDIT : 18h40 :

The virtual machine under W7 is a deadend. Graphic card driver updates takes forever as this is emulated by software. So I'm giving up this option after 4 hours of hard try.

I have a really old pc under W7 (no GC just chipset installed), I'm downloading the game on it right now. If at least it can run the game, I'll try reinstalling W7 on my gaming PC to see if it fixes the crash. I hope this is a not a "complex" crash happening only when you combine OS AND hardware material. I'll keep you informed.

Omg...
The game is ABLE to launch on windows 7 on my Aspire Z5771....

I'm going to reinstall windows 7 on my gaming PC... Could this be the only way to play that game ? =/

I'll keep you in touch with the results.

Karate.
It's me again.

I'm getting close to understand what causes the crash. It's not ONLY hardware related but IMHO comes from a cocktail of OS and hardware.

I did reinstall windows 7 from scratch. Even after updating to latest video drivers, the game crashes with the expected "kiwi game crash". Please note that I did not use ANY Av software or malware/adware software for these tests, so it's safe to say the kiwi crash is not related to theses security softwares.

BUT this time, if I run the "Steam.exe" app in admin mode, then the game works like a charm.

What is strange is that, while I was on Windows 10, I tried every combination of windows compatibility modes with admin modes on the different .exe files... and the kiwi game crash happened each time.

Saying this, I'm not 100% sure that my shortcut to steam referred to the precise "Steam.exe" file while I was on windows 10, it could have been another steam file, like GUI or Overlay.

Can someone on windows 10 try to run the exact STEAM.EXE file in admin mode (do not use your shortcuts, seriously go to the steam file and run steam.exe one) ? Try having it in windows 7 compatibility mode also it it does not work righ away. Maybe it can fix this deadly bug...

Or maybe you need to reinstall from scratch your steam client since it seems it's the steam file that triggers the kiwi crash ?

At least it's not my hardware that causes the problem since I can play fine with admin mode.

I hope this info will help you out guys...

I'm quite tired of installing / reinstalling complete OS just to run this game, please tell me what it does for you in W10 configs.

Karate.
That's a hell of time investment you've put into the problem tracking karate_ninja.

I've been watching the SF Unreal Engine 4 (UE4-Kiwi) errors since SFV release in February 2016, in short most of them were related to:
  • not accessable
  • or missing
  • or corrupted files

this also explains why some people had success solving these issues with various methods:
  • admin mode (gives unrestricted access to all system files and also creates a new config folder for SFV savegames)
  • whitelisting SFV in security software
  • verifying SFV game cache files in Steam library (can get rid of corrupted downloaded files)
  • deleting/renaming SFV movie files (avoids loading the video player with missing codecs)
  • reinstall Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 (a lot of software relies on different Visual C++ components / reinstalls / modifies it with each new install)
  • deleting the retail SFV config folder with messed up configs / savegames
    %LocalAppData%\StreetFighterV\Saved
  • deleting the KiWi folder + fresh Steam install if they have played the closed SFV beta (gets rid of old configuration files / registry values).

Valve has also implemented a new feature to reset the Steam client:
https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638&l=english

You should do a DirectX diagnose after each modification / error and safe the dxdiag.txt files with appropriate labels, this can help you to track the error details, which are saved at the bottom of dxdiag.txt, usually @ [P4] for each error.

You should also check the Steam file properties (version no / size).

It would be interesting if compressing and sharing the Steam installation folder (without any games) can solve the issue for others with the same problem, but is not recommended, because it can contain some private login data to your Steam account.
Hi IITWLLII; and thanks for your post and gathering usefull info.

Yesterday I was full of hope because I figured my hardware could run the game under W7, and this at least means there is a way to run the game without changing any other physical device (including Hard drive and Mobo/proc) with this OS.

However, this morning I (once again =/) reinstalled W10.

Then tried again every trick admin / compat W7 mode on steam.exe and SFV.exe.

The kiwi game crash is happening everytime ='(

Nothing really changes (no AV nor malware software installed (or active), drivers up to date).
I tried to reinstall steam client; with no success.

I don't know which feature of W10 causes the problem... there are many background tasks and new options/parameters. On other specs the game runs just fine with W10, so this is an unhappy mix between hardware and W10.

I suspect the game .exe itself is not the only file involved in this, it has something to do with memory managment and steam client.

For now I'm not giving up tries but I'm once again at a the "0" starting point : brand new OS, softwares up to date, every possible temporary / cache file wiped out, every piece of hardware not conflicting with each orther and still, this same old bug again... and not a word from Capcom or steam officials.

Karate

Hey Karate_Ninja, i remember it was possible for me to play SFV during the Beta P3 on my old System it was a crap System with W7 and it runs without problems but then my Pc got roasted and i had to buy a new Pc with W10 since then i have the Problem with the Kiwi Crash.

My old Pc was a W7 Nvidia/i5 System the new one is a W10 AMD System, and im Saving money right now to Buy another Pc.

But i expected it a while ago to be an Windows problem but i follow this Topic here since it started and if im right some ppl with W7 have the problem too.

Its a really strange Bug and i´ve never heard something like this happend before it is what u said not just a HW or Os related it must be a Mix of both that makes it hard to figure where the problem is.

I personally gave allready up on fixing or finding a solution on this Pc because i tryed everything possible and buying a new Pc is the last thing i try. :(

....

That's unfortunate to say the least....

Steam and Windows 10 beta had many issues, maybe something carried over who knows.
There were some group policy issues, which are similar to admin rights problems.

The main difference between a fresh installation of Windows 7 and Windows 10 is:
- Windows 7 has a less restrictive UAC for admin and user accounts.
- Windows 7 has an older version of Windows Defender, which has only Spyware/Adware scanners, without a real Antivirus engine.
- Windows 7 provides a pre-installed Windos Media Center
- Windows 7 has an older DirectX version preinstalled (DirectX 11.0).

- Windows 10 user desktop settings are saved online, if you have a Microsoft e-Mail account linked to your Windows user account. Which means everytime when you reinstall Windows 10 and reconnect to your linked Windows 10 e-Mail your desktop settings will be downloaded and restored from Microsofts OneDrive. This can be comfortable if you ran through thousands of WIndows 10 beta tests without issues, but can be a pain in the *** if you need to reset all Windows settings. Better create an offline Windows account and don't login with your Microsoft e-Mail adress in Windows until you have sorted out your issue.

Both Windows 10 and Windows 7 have a hidden administrator account, which is completely unrestricted and usually hidden and disabled for safety reasons by default, it is usually used in emergency situations / offline mode / safe boot mode to fix critical system propblems.
http://www.ghacks.net/2014/11/12/how-to-enable-the-hidden-windows-10-administrator-account/

Btw. ARK Survival and SFV share nearly the same Unreal Engine 4 and run through Steam.
Maybe one of the following solutions can work out for your:
http://windowsreport.com/ark-survival-evolved-issues-windows-10/
Once again, thanks for your help mate.

I wasn't aware of the special admin feature on W10, I tried to enable it but a strange error code prevented me from doing so; even in admin cmd mode.

That's the correct state of mind to gather each possible significant difference between 7 and 10; at this time I had no luck even after trying the 2-3 tips from ARK post.

For the account maybe I'm wrong logging in with my online account, I'll try an offline one if I have time enough.

@ Aoi : mine mobo is also an AMD one : A68HM-P33 (MS-7721) manufactured by M.S.I.

I'll try to save up money to buy another; just to see if it makes any differences. It might change everything or nothing.

See you soon.

Is there a way to get this thread pinned?
Just curious:
  • did you run only Steam as administrator?
or did you also changed the properties of BOTH StreetFighterV.exe files

Hi again,
For the admin / compat modes, I tried every combination possible between :

Steam.exe (named client bootstraper in W10)
both SFV.exe files

It means a lot of combination, but no one works.

I did try all levels of UAC modes, no visible difference between those settings.

I tried the 7,8,9 methods on the ARK thread. I had on my end allready tried the other tips indicated.

My .ini files are all blank except the Engine.ini. As I am not able to launch the game, I cannot set any of the other settings from the game. I tried copying your gamusersettings.ini into my own file, but with no success.

My system is :

CPU: AMD A46320
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: ASUS Strix GTX 970
MB: A68HM-P33 (MS-7721)
OS: Win10 64 Bit
Installation of SFV and OS on same drive too
Resolution: 1842*1036

Currently I'm using an HDMI TV screen (FUNAI TV 50hz) with HDMI cable. But I tried with a VGA screen too and same crash.

what is Strange is that the DXdiag states I'm using the "no sound" launching option... This is not true as I did not add any special command like "-fullscreen" or anything in the steam advanced property tab fro SFV.

Could there be any sound problems for my mobo ? I'll try to seek any driver updates but I've visited MSI website and downloaded every possible file they had to offer.

Anyway, HUGE thanks for your posts, you're taking much of your freetime to help us and it's really something apprectiated ! Thumbs up !
