This is so wrong in so many levels lol. If you can't do something with a stick the problem ain't the stick lol. Never seen a top 8 player on a keyboard (neither on a hitbox) and only 1 dude got to top 8 with a pad (luffy), there MIGHT be a reason.
And it pretty safe to assume any controller will work with the PC version, like with every other pc game, as long as windows recognizes it, the game won't conciously block you from it. Specially because there are a TON of stick manufacturers, and no actual SONY stick.
General pc-enabled controller support is a given, don't worry.
Sticks are quite pricey. If I could find one cheap I would buy one right now. A keyboards configureation, if you set it up in the only way that makes sense, is pretty similar to a stick...minus the stick. There are a couple of pros that use pads and frankly, I don't how you play that well on a pad. I also think the baseball bat shaped stick would be easier to use than the traditional arcade stick.
You don't watch very close. Evo 2014 top 4 had TWO pad players, since snake eyez was also in there with Luffy. Nuckledu got top 8 in EVO 2015 just the other month. Du, snake eyez and smug all use pad (even a 360 pad in smug's case) and they are probably America's best 3 players with major event wins under their belts. Zeus also plays on pad as a world class Vega, Pro Fluke and ISDD in the UK use pad... there's probably a ton more.
Also Snakeyez and all the players already mentioned that use pad :p
Snakeyez
Luffy
Tampa Bison
Alioune
Zeus
Smug
Stick Players
Daigo
Tokido
Infiltration
Laugh
Sako
Momochi
Xian
Haitani
Alex Valle
Justin Wong...basically every pro ever...lol
The stick is the way to go though. You're just making and argument/debate/conversation if you're trying to say that pad is superior to fight stick...
Saying pad is superior might be a pointlessly controversial staement (fine, it's not something I believe personally either) but then how do you support a statement like 'stick is the way to go'...? Considering for example the fact that the *best* players in America and many of the top players in Europe use pad.
I believe neither pad nor stick is superior, but I don't think people should feel pressured to get sticks for the 'true' experience or any guff like that. I mean I've seen twitch streamers with fightsticks which they clearly bought solely for SFIV, but their execution is total grandma tier mashing where they're lucky to get a fireball out. They're having fun and enjoying the game, maybe, but they could have very easily achieved the same result - or, with practice, far better - on pad without shelling out extra cash.
People should note that pro players don't just use stick because it's the 'pro' thing to do, they do it because most of them have their roots in the arcade scene and stick is what they're used to. Likewise fighting game arcade cabinets didn't have sticks on them because sticks are amazing and ergonomic - they had sticks because practically all arcade cabinets had that input method. How would they even go about replicating the input methods of 16-bit consoles on an arcade cabinet of the late 80s/early 90s? It just wasn't practical. However, in Japanese arcades now there are FG cabs with peripheral ports, for players to plug in whatever they like to use.
Think how just after SFIV came out you had all the old guard dominating EVO top 8 with their arcade backgrounds and stick setups, but in the years since '09, more top competitors emerged whose origins were the home console environment - such as tampabison, who has written an article (I can't find it) about how he came into competitive FGs via the xbox version of SFIV. Now that we're a few years down the line, pad players are sweeping US majors and creeping into EVO contention.
Seriously all that matters is what the player is comfortable with. Stick is only 'the way to go' if you've tried both and you favour stick. Until then, buying a stick is nothing but an expensive experiment, and people who think it's going to improve their execution may be in for a rude awakening.
While it DOES come down to preference, sticks are factually more precise, which in turns makes them better than pads.
Believe me, I'm by no means an orthadox person that believes you have to go one way, but I do believe the stick has the most potential. It was kind of meant to be played with a stick as the very first Street Fighter was released as an arcade game. I agree though, whatever you like should be your method, not what the majority of pros use.
I was going to add the cultural difference between controllers on my last comment, but I didn't have time to add it. We grew up with controllers in the US, in the east thy grew up with arcade sticks. I'll keep it short and simple. You said something like that though.
The reason I find the stick appealing is because a keyboard works very well for me. The horizontal interface works for me. The controller/pad just doesn't connect to my brain lol
You can mash on both, but imo, I feel you can more easily maneuver with the stick.
Simple answer though, #1 player in the world uses a stick: Daigo Umehara.

It's a personal preference and has nothing to do with skill or what is better.
I already said it's personal preferance. You're not going to magically turn into the world's best player because you changed from pad to stick or vice versa, that goes without saying.
I stated in my last comment that I believe that a stick has more potential. Obviously, this depends on who you are. I used my self as an example. I cannot use a pad, I have stupid thumbs that don't cooperate with me. Obviously pros like Luffy can.
Pads are very small in comparison to a arcade stick/fightstick (whatever you want to call it). I believe something that lies flat and has larger buttons and spacing just lets you play better. Obviously, this doesn't mean you're going to keep excelling to professional level whether you're using a pad or a stick.

Use what you want but pros with pads have not done well in 2015. If you do well with a pad, a keyboard, a stick, that's your business. I do think you should try other countrollers, you may find something else works better, and this will allow you to progress. Yes, you can progress. No you won't just get a fight stick or another controller and be a pro level gamer, but if there is a controller that you find you respond better to, you will be a better gamer and one day you may be very high level.
I was going to debate you on this, but honestly... If you want to believe that, go ahead.
Buying a fight-stick was one of the worst decisions I've ever made. It didn't up my game. It didn't take me to the next level. I did, however, waste $80.
Old-school (and Japanese) players use sticks. Younger players tend to use pads. Why? Because old-schoolers play(ed) frequently in arcades. Younger players play mostly on consoles. It's just preference. Neither will guaruntee victory.
You get what you put in.
