Why is blanka so hated?

IDK what the source of the hate is, but it is real.

In my experience, too many people don't know the match-up, he's a really confusing character to fight.

It doesn't help that not many people play him either. I want to learn the matchup more, but I never have the chance to do so.

I am very sad that Blanka is not in this game, He is my favorite since SF2.

Shutting down Blanka requires some answers that just aren't very good online. Blanka Balls needs to be stopped in mid-flight to be punishable in a lot of matchups. If it's laggy, this can be an issue or impossible to do at mid-range.

In order to deal with Blanka's wakeup options (Where he's weakest), you generally have to be precise with your setups. This is also hard to do online.

In order to deal with Blanka's Hop, you generally need to be playing on a good connection, or it's too hard to react to correctly.

Intermediate players fare much better against other characters because the answer to similarly skilled players are much simpler. Space, poke and anti-air. Blanka has simple ways around those things, as flawed as he is as a character.

I still think Blanka is great. Look at Riceata, who teared up at Defend The North and Canada Cup.

nah its not that...even when i win against the majority of blankas i just hate that dude and people who play him...but your right. when someone really want to play him he should do so no matter what other people think of him or that char.

The answer to your question (if you're referring to SF4 blanka) is simply the lag caused by online play.

Even with the best online connection, the extra frames of delay generated by the online environment are enough to make dealing with Blanka's movement a guessing game.

In other words, by the time you've reacted to whatever Blanka is doing, its generally too late to punish it. So you have to adjust the way you approach this matchup because of online. Because of Blanka. :)

He is very difficult to fight. There are many frustrating aspects to it. His hob allows him to bypass your character. This lets him get behind you while evading your attack. Blanka can slide. This goes under projectiles. His vertical 'ball' can hit from across the screen. He can punish from just about anywhere. If he uses lightning you must hit him with a low attack. If used on reaction, Blanka can prevent attacks. His ball move is difficult to deal with. Mainly due to it's speed. Add-in lag, and it gets even worse.

You won't find too many high-level players dedicated to Blanka in SF4. I haven't heard about Blanka in SF5. So, I wouldn't expect him until sometime in 2017. (If at all.)
