How many people would actually utilize LAN? You either play the game sitting side by side or if you really wanted a head to head situation... just hook up 2 monitors. I don't see any situation where it would be worth the time and money to add that feature.
there's your solution, without ever needing a LAN
If we're talking about local tournaments then we wouldn't have a reason for LAN play.
As D3Vlicious mention, not a single fighting game tournament runs by this format. Since it's cost & space efficient to have one console and one screen.
you dont need any server or lan to play with a guy next to you?!

I think you taking a couple minutes to hook up 2 monitors to a single PC is far more worth the effort than Capcom opening their game up to pirates.
