If fight sticks are your thing, something I use, but not a necessity, I would suggest using a MadCatz, Hori or Qanba fight stick. PS3 fight sticks work for USFIV(PS4) as long as a PS4 controller is connected to the console. Same goes for fight sticks that are dual-modded. If you plan on playing SFV(PS4) then dual-modded sticks need a PS4 controller connected PLUS they have an 8-minute time out (meaning you have to keep reconnecting to the PS4 every 8-minutes or so).
In addition, If you wish to bypass this, purchase the new ChronusMAX Plus with the new crossover support firmware with removes the 8-minute time (not recommended if you are a Tournament player), a TitanOne (same as the ChronusMAX) or a Brook's adapter that allows you to use Xbox 360, PS3 fightsticks on rival consoles, for example: Want to use a 360 fightstick on a PS4 and vice versa for Xbox One, etc? Use a Chronus Max Plus, Titan One or Brooks adapter.

I assume you're playing on PC, if so, then none of this applies to you. SFV PC can use an Xbox 360, PS3/PC fight stick with little to no issue. You can use a MadCatz, Qanba/Eight Arc or HORI. However, keep in mind that if you are planning on going to a local tournament or play with friends-- then you will be a PS4 fight stick or a convertor for your last-gen fight stick.
If you don't know what fight stick to buy then I would recommend checking out Amazon, eBay or Craigslist for fightstick deals. Fighrsticks can range anywhere from $160-200 without tax. They are a bit of an investment, but they are worth it in the long run. I recently purchased a HORI RAP4 Kai 'Silent' from Arcade Shock.
If you have anymore questions, feel free to send me a private message and I'll do what I can to help you further. I hope this helps.
Take care

If you are feeling brave, there is this too: http://www.hitboxarcade.com/
BTW from my research the only sticks worth buying are the ridiculously overpriced ones, that have good components such as Sanwa.
Smug, Wolfkrone, PIE Sci, NuckleDu and Snake Eyez say hi. A controller nor a fight stick make a difference. Its all about preference and playing comfortably. I won't comment on what you find "overpriced", but fight sticks are priced that way for a reason. They are worth every cent.
Street Fighter Third Strike or Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo--- most players are using USF4 to practice for SFV than the former.
In terms of execution, most SF games would do the trick... probably SF4 in Omega mode is the closest ones, since SF5 is easier than SF4 in terms of execution.
They are priced that way because there's demand. But what I'm traying to say is that you probably won't get "the benefits of the stick" such as the faster dash input, easier plinking and piano rolls on a cheap stick that have unresponsive components.
Once again. A pad nor fight stick matter. There are no benefits. Everything you are saying in regards to their differences are irrelevant. However, I do agree with the difference of a top-of-the-line stick compared to a cheaper stick like a Mayflash or the older MadCatz SE's.
100% correct. Its all about execution and fundamentals at the end of the day.
I mean, I'm pretty sure that most people here wouldn't win a single round against Broly Legs, but that doesn't mean that playing with your tongue is just as good as with all your fingers, right?
Its because you have pro players that don't like the feel of a gamepad and their execution is better on a fight stick. That being said-- that doesn't make a fight stick superior to a gamepad. Its all about personal preference.
Every player had a "mechanical advantage" over Luffy at EVO, yet he won, with a PS1 gamepad--using Rose. Your argument had been rended invaid, sir.
And you're comparing a tongue to fingers. Horrible, horrible example.
I'm gonna practice on my friends Street Fighter Alpha 3, he'll let me borrow it, mostly I want to try Karin, she's the one that interests me alot. That and Juri. I already know Karin is very different in SF5, but her style is still there, I can adjust.
OK, so let's compare it with a X360 gamepad with only five buttons, because that's what he uses. You don't believe that an 8 buttons controller have any advantage over a 5 buttons one?
