I felt just since it was used, it might be a good idea to replace the parts to give it new life, I was just lucky to know about the Sanwa company while browsing for Fight Sticks. I found a supplier (arcade world uk) and ordered a new set of buttons with a stick and an Octogate plate for it as well. Man the thing is amazing now, replaced the white with red buttons and the white sticks now red too. So for me it was both Cosmetic and Matinence reasons.
In my time finding a new Fightstick i learned you can mod for many reasons:
Cosmetic changes
Switch from ball top to bat top
Options to switch to silent buttons or higher quality parts
Replace you're square gate on the joystick with an octo gate.
Replace the standard lower quality buttons on Fightsticks with Sanwa/Seimitsu ones
Making it work with more systems/consoles
Trying new parts from different companies to see if you prefer their feel.
Sorry for a long ass winded post. From what i've learned many Fightsticks out there are easy to open up and mantain, mod and customize. I don't tend to mod anything unless it really does improve things. Even if you have a new Hori or Madcatz you have a reason to mod. Both of them don't use the good buttons anymore I have heard from reviews and you can improve them for around $25, I'd have not gotten such a good stick for such a steal if i hadn't been interested in modding so i've that to thank for it at least. She's done me good.
I think if you like tinkering with things especially, this thing will not be a challenge to open up and mod. I've been having a look on google, you got a good buy from you're friend there and i couldn't find anything either unfortunately, it looks pretty tricky to do something like that to you're Venom compared to my old 08' Madcatz fightstick, I really wish you the best of luck with it in the future, I hope you'll find what you're looking for soon, It could be a good idea to even check out a mod forum or two I only just got into it and i could bet someone over there could help you with the cosmetic side of things.
Its a big ass web page. Scroll down until you see a Ken Template. I hope this can help you somehow, it seems to be a guy giving you a guide to mod the venom controller with a new overlay.
Hope you like it :) Looks very easy to mod otherwise. I got mine so cheap that even with a full mod it will be cheaper than buying it new.
Thanks! I found one, it might even be the same one you linked. Hard at work designing my own stick artwork now :) Although I'm a little tempted to put this thing I already made on it xD

Yeahs you should, it's awesome!
Even if it only makes you feel better, it will make you play better though :) So in a way, there might be a difference. I'm also skeptical about any physical difference though.
I'm actually looking to switch the buttons myself but mostly because I want a different colour :o
As for the talk with the Sanwa buttons, they really are impressive. I'd also recommend trying out Seimitsu ones if you've got the cash around. Its really easy to change them around. Hate to seem like i'm giving them a plug but ArcadeworldUK do some really good prices on all kinds of arcade stick mods, I say this because most places i looked elsewhere such as amazon had specific colored sanwa buttons for a crazy high price.
Heh, haven't really done much work on the stick (besides practicing) lately, maybe one day :)
