Is plinking really still a thing?

My seasoned fighting game friend-guy tells me that plinking can still be pulled off in this game, even though with the removal of 1 frame links, it is hardly necessary to do. Is it true that plinking is still a mechanic that can be pulled off? I thought that I saw some news articles well before the game was released that stated that plinking would not be returning to the series.

It does still exist, but because of the input buffer leniancy, its not really needed anymore.

Plinking is a technique that was usesd to abuse a bug in SFIV gameengine.
We use now UE4 and the bug is not in this engine, you can plink, but it won't affect anything.

I concur. I believe this is the only 1F link in the entirety of SFV. I could be wrong though however I do know that 1F links are no longer a "thing" in SFV which is why plinking is not really necessary anymore.
