I got it to work by using x360ce
I feel you, no dropped inputs here anyway though, if you change your mind add and message me I'll walk you through the process, it took me a bit to get going but then again that's because I had to use x360ce specifically since I was trying to get two sticks going. If you just have one stick you can use one of the easier utillities like Xpadder or JoyToKey

Try one of the mentioned programs:
Xpadder, JoyToKey or x360ce
For now use x360ce or Joy2Key, like some others have mentioned. I have a PS3 joystick myself and both these solutions mentioned work fine.
