However, if you plan on going to tournaments then you will be playing on a ps4 and it might screw you, because a ps4 feels like pc with V-sync on.
You might want to consider that.
If you only play on pc then sure go ahead and turn off V-sync.
Your reasoning is correct, however I would always advise people to only play PC tournaments, Alex Valle has already mentioned the input lag difference on PS4 and uses PC setups for his tournaments. I would never go to a tournament that only supports SFV on a PS4.
PC setups only is an utopia at least for bigger tournaments.
In my opinion you can only make this possible at small local tournaments.
I do not think that PC will become the standard platform to play on.
It did not work with USF4 and it will not work with SFV, because Sony is the sponsor and provides the hardware.
Moreover, a PS4 is easier to set up and people cannot really ♥♥♥♥ something up.
It is nice to hear that Alex Valle wants to switch to PC for his tournaments.
I know that he had similliar plans for USF4, but I am not sure if WNF was played on PC or XBOX360.
However, I do share your opinion that SFV should be played on PC setups if possible.
Unfortunately, this is very unlikely for bigger tournaments :(
Some input device can cause input lag, too:

There is also display lag. Most pc monitors have rather low to almost no display lag, but with big tvs it is a completely different story. Use gaming mode if you can and remember that some tvs only have low display lag if you use a specific hdmi connector.
You can get information about your model here:

You also want to use ethernet over wifi. If the distance to your router is too long (or you don't want long cables in your house), you could opt for a powerline adapter.

Input lag, which is what this thread is about ;)

^This is a very good explanation why V-Sync on causes lag, no matter how good your PC is, since it depends on your screens ability to display frames in a certain time. The downside of V-Sync off is screen tearing. The most annoying screen tearing I've ever encountered with vsync off was in Assassin's Creed Black flag..unplayable when set to "off". But 99% of times I play with V-Sync off.
So, in the end, it only (mostly) matters to those of us that have a 60hz display.
So, if you have a 120hz display, enabling/disabling vsync wont change much.
This was the doubt I had, since my display works at 60hz but I haven't noticed any mayor input lag even with vsync enabled. (Which is weird, I know)
there is an input lag difference between local versus, singleplayer, and online versus. Here's a video going over it.

It's pretty bad how high the input latency is relative to USFIV and independent fighters like SG.
