I can turn on automatch and play different people who use different characters and have a fair match each time since match making is skill based.
bro you are trollling if you think the automatch in this game "works" ever since SF6 came out You'd have a quicker time finding a match by knocking on peoples doors and asking them if they want to play SF5 than you would actually trying to use the automatch in this game
I have had more luck with trying to find a casual match than ranked, but if you're willing to wait for several minutes, you'll find someone. A big factor may be your rank, since it will pair you up against people of similar skill level. Being a silver I have to wait for quite some time. Rookies may not have to wait as long. Of course I can't speak for anyone gold or higher - never been there myself....
