Dan still has some elements of when he was a joke character like his terrible fireball and taunts. Put time into him though and he can keep people trapped on block or even land an infinite* on hit with his VS2 cancels. He's definitely not a beginner character.
*he does technically have a real infinite but it can be ended by a random chance buffed fireball
i don't play a shoto character, I main Blanka. But i like Abigail and Falke too. Neither of which are shoto.
i know Luke is OP, but Dan looks so comical and fun. a hard decision for sure.
If you have CE and are unlocking the S5 characters with FM though, you'll have everyone in no time anyway
Can't say who would be more fun for you, depends on what you prefer.
I'm not a fan of Luke, hate his generic design, but I'll give it to them, his qcb+p can be fun to play with, cos you gotta hold it long enough to get the lvl 2 version but don't hold too long or it won't combo from whatever normal atk you were cancelling it from. combined with vt2, you can cancel from one strength of qcb+p to a different strength of qcb+p.
I personally find Dan much more fun to play because of his vskill 2, which gives him the freedom to mix and match almost any pair of normal atks. This is the reason why he can be so scary to defend against, just look up Moruto's dan and you'll see why. it's difficult to master but it's awesome.
Everytime he says "what's up, what's up?!" during a successful throw, just kills me. xD
Good choice! He's not strong but he really is a lot of fun to play. Best iteration of Dan in any sf game imo.
