What the heck does that icon in the VS screen mean?
Got a question. I have been playing Battle Lounge. Got the below two matches, confirmed both 5 bars before starting (im on wired direct to router). But the first match (Link 1) was really laggy/teleport etc. Second match (Link 2) was good. One thing i noticed is that during the VS screen, there is this little connection icon ( circled in red) and both looked different despite a 5 bar connection. The laggy match (Link 1) had a right angled connection icon.

Anyone knows what does that mean? Many thanks

I honestly don't know, but if I had to hazard a guess, I think it might represent the connection type?

It is likely it shows the connection type. But both are 5 bar connection, so why is it different? I dont think anyone has discussed about this particular icon and what it represents.Maybe NAT Open/Strict ?

1st one is P2P and the 2nd one is a server (just like in games like CSGO) connection i guess.

I thought all games are P2P?

I have been playing and taking note of the connection icon. I can confirm now that if the icon is 2 dots (straight), the game is likely to be smooth. If the icon is 3 dots (right angle), it will be a lag fest. After getting some advice from people on reddit, it seems like the 3 dot connection could be a server linked match instead of P2P which is why it lags so bad.

So for those people who have laggy matches, try to take note of the connection icon and let us know if that is true for you.

ANyone saying it refers to it NOT being a P2P connection is talking out of their ass.
A straight connection between an opponent is ALWAYS, no matter the situation better than having a server inbetween, which will add an extra layer of delay. For a 1v1 fighting game adding a server for anythign else than matchhmaking and recording stats is useless.

So I don't play online yet, is it possible to see this icon before starting a match?

No. You can only see the icon after character select at the VS screen.

I wondered, but figured I'd ask. Thanks for the response Kaster.

I've been taking notice of those icons as well, they are puzzling. Will have to look at it before each match and take notes how the matches play out

im glad more people are taking notice. It is a mystery at the moment. But i have been taking lots of notes and the straight line 2 dot connection icon does consistently yield better matches.

Just an update on what the connection icon means. I finally got an answer from Capcom after about 2 weeks wait.

Thank you for contacting us. We finally got confirmation on what they are:

1. Relay server matching
2. P2P matching

Thank you.

So it is confirmed, there are server matches in SFV.

It would be great to see how they impact on the game delay and if there are present only on ranked matches. Also, having the ip of one of them would be great for some network testing.
