How do I turn the ads off?

battle settings -> sponsored content and don't choose the "ad costume"

Thanks. Was trying to find that when it threw me into a fight that I couldn't see the option to decline or even pick a character. DOA5's throwdown system at least gives the option to decline

You need to use fight request and set it to ask if you want to accept/decline matches yourself.
There is no character select in ranked/casual it will alwasy use the character you choose in battle settings.

Ah, didn't know that. I just went AFK instead and left when the fight was over
