I just can't find a main.

I get bored of characters so quickly, ill put in 100hrs but get bored, this year I went from Sakura, E Honda, Oro, now Urien. I enjoy the game and study and put a ton of hours into each character I play.

Anyone else the same?

It happens quite often to me in fighting games, to put hundreds of hours into the game without finding the right character. Fortunately it didn't happen to me in SFV.
Keep playing as long as you like it, finding a main is not mandatory to have fun.

What exactly are you looking for then? Something to simply keep your attention? Or a character that will help you advance in rank? I’ve played Ed since he came out and have found that I was able to greatly advance my skills because Ed was so simple to use he allowed me to focus on strategy, footsies, reactions, basic BnB combos, etc…

If you’re looking for a character to keep your attention, then it’s possible that this game isn’t for you, especially if you’ve gone through the entire cast. If you haven’t, then just keep moving from character to character until you’ve exhausted all your options. Their might be one final balance patch when Luke comes out, but that’s it. The game will essentially cease development after (unless Capcom takes a more lenient stance on mods that alter game mechanics and allow people to use something like The Mysterious Mod in actual online matches).

I understand OPs concerns, by experience I have more fun into a fighting game when I find some kind of a bond with the character that I chose to main. I had a lot of troubles finding a main in SFIII and SFIV back then, while it came naturally in SFV. However I've played SFIII and SFIV more than I'll ever play SFV, this is not really about the game, but the casting itself.

Someone to hold my attention, I haven't tried Akira yet shes next on my list. Thanks for the suggestion to keep trying everyone! I really loved Oro but hoping for him to get a buff. I love SFV a lot, I love watching it especially FGC translated/SFL/Brian_F and Punk. I guess I don't have to be like them, just enjoy the game for what it is at a casual level. Hopefully SF6 has a character that will hold my attention.

Putting 100 hours into anything will get boring after awhile. It took me over a year of playing Sakura to finally make it to gold and I'm pretty sick of her too by now, and I never really liked her much in the first place. I want to play other characters but I don't know them well enough to win much and also don't want to put in 100 hours learning them. It's a weird paradox.

You really don't need a main. But i can asure you that if thatbis your goal it will make you frustrated.
You can enjoy characters that are shidty

For example. Im rashid silver to gold
Karin silver only
Eddie diamond. Rusty tho. Left him cause he doesnt fit me
Zangief silver
Gill ultra gold

And to be honest i enjoy karen most but its not like i have a defeatist mentality but i think inpretty much have reached the best i can

More over maining ed made me autist
Doing the same boring combos over and over

Having a main only makes the game small.

Basically the moral. Dont look for a main. Mains are finest when they come in a coincedence.

Or maybe choose a character that u feel related to.

I personally main Dan. Not because he's OP, but because it's really satisfying to beat up characters that are supposed to be the strongest (Akuma, Gill, etc) lol

I'd add some nuance to it. Having a main character can be entertaining for some and boring for others. I'm on the complete opposite of yours, I like maining one char, and play sometimes a backoff character but not that much. I feel I discover more about how deep a game is by maining one character, while on the opposite playing too much character makes me just scratch the surface for all of them. Don't get me wrong I've tried all characters in SFV, everytime a new ones comes up I give a chance to it.

I understand your behaviour too, this is just some different approach, what's important in the end is just to have fun with the game.

I agree on that however, everytime I chose a main I never forced myself into it, it's more like the character coming to me. When I tried to force myself playing a character because I like his style/playstyle I never succeed into it, they just come naturally.

i feel the same , I play zangief but he's so boring compared to street fighter 4.

I waited so long and hoped they make him more fun. All other characters got more combos and swaggy ♥♥♥♥ just look at ryu how he was at release compared to now.

I have the same problem with SF5. Cannot find my main. I played Sakura, Laura, Abigail, tried opthers too but there is always sometnig not ok.... I got to gold with Sakura and Laura, maybe SF6 in SF6 'll find the one :)

This question of the main is very subjective, as players don't choose it for the same reasons.

I, for example, chose Guile for the following reasons: he's a badass, he has the most stylish move in the game (the Flash Kick), his theme song is the one I like the most, and his sunglasses look sinister... See what my reasons for choosing main go far beyond any technical issue, gameplay or whatever.

So, the question remains what you are really looking for for your main: is it a gameplay? A character to move up in the league? A character that you identify with for their style or appearance? All that I mentioned?

I know Street Fighter is far from some types of styles and looks that are emerging today. For example, a more emo or boyband (or idol, whatever) look. If that's the case, I don't think this SF will please you, lol.

For me is exactly the opposite.
Sorry for answering so late.
I began with Ryu in order to know how the game works and I got stuck in Ultra Bronze. Then changed to Juri and went straight up to Silver (about 2500 points) but I got stuck there. Tried Laura too but it was a dissaster. Then Poison, Lucia and E. Honda were released and the 2nd VT and VS were introduced in the game a little later, I changed to Poison and got to Gold in no time.

I've tried to come back to Juri but can't pass Ultra Silver. Tried Lucia, and, the second day, I was where I was with Juri for months. With Menat I'm just Silver because I only know one combo and She needs tons of time to be well controlled, and frankly... I'm not in the mood. Silver for Cammy too.

When I hit a wall with every character I've tried and get salty, I come back to Poison and I melt those opponents that "makes my wall" like butter.

So, my main is Poison. No matter which character I try. I always come back to Poison. She is my main. And what I'm not able to do, is to find another main. XD
