You should play an OP shoto, like Ken or Honda (OP characters, you can reach a high rank like ultra bronze in no time if you play them)
You don't rank up because you don't know anti air and probably flying jump a lot. Stay more on the ground and focus on punishing your opponent's jumps with the anti-air. If you do just that, you will easily arrive in gold.

AA’ing though would certainly help. That, and paying attention to your opponents habits and exploiting the weakness of whatever character they’re using, nailing down your characters BnB combos to get used to their move timings, etc... I went from maining shotos and being stuck in Super Gold to Super Plat using Ed. Ed’s move set was simple enough, due to lack of directional inputs, that it allowed me to focus on other aspects of my gameplay that were severely lacking. I’m still not were I’d like to be in terms of rank, but I’m climbing slowly. I believe my win/loss ratio is just barely over 50%.
I’m not ‘good’ by any means, but I feel I’m in a position where I can offer basic advice based on seeing how someone plays. If anyone wants to train or run some battle lounge sets, my CFN is Stronk_PunchBeef. I usually play on nights during the week and during the day on weekends, if you see me on hmu.
Why not try another character then?
''Too many multi input buttons that favors arcade stick players'', top tier scrub quote right there lmaoooo. If he played with an arcade stick he'd still be stuck on Ultra Silver because playing on arcade stick doesn't give you any real advantage lmao.
In fact some inputs are a little bit harder on stick if you play on P2 side because you change how your wrist moves, in P1 you pull and in P2 you push, and pushing is weird as ♥♥♥♥ when you do DP motions for example.
I speak from experience, before I switched to arcade stick I thought ''Yeah if I play on stick my execution will be better and I'll be UGM in no time'', but that wasn't the case at all, It took months to feel comfortable playing stick and now that I feel comfortable with it, I can confidently say that I still suck ♥♥♥♥ at this game lol.
For some reason on p1 side, with Urien Down Hp + metalic sphere, I have to buffer the move and press the button exactly when the second hit of down hp connects.
On p2 side, I can buffer the move earlier and press the button on second hit and the sphere will come out everytime.
1. Fight sticks make a lot of noise. If you're living by yourself in a house all on your own, then not an issue. But if you're sharing an apartment with other people and the walls are thin, they get mad when you keep them up at night. When I was at university, I had a roommate, it was one not-very-large room (no walls between us), and noise was a real issue.
2. Don't top rank players use pad? It's not really a fair comparison, because players are different. But *if it's possible* it's just a matter of practice unless it's *really* a matter of physical limitation, and I don't know that I would agree physical limitation is what keeps a player out of gold.
3. The fact a player's concerned over the difference between stick and pad means - what do you think? I think that player has used stick, and wants to use stick, so keeps thinking in stick terms. So of course they're going to be dissatisfied with pad. But if they want to use pad, they have to be a pad user, practice with pad, live with pad, etc.
4. Maybe none of what I'm writing applies to your friend, maybe he really knows what he's talking about and I just don't understand because I'm a scrub. BUT, for real, if he has to use pad he has to use pad, that's just how it is, and he's best off accepting that.
