Ken gets easy damage with very little execution required early on, so he feels very strong in the beginning as such.
Ken's always a hassle to fight. In the lower ranks (where I am) I fight a lot of hyper aggressive Kens that wake-up DP every time and no matter what I still end up falling for it. I swear they can jump and before their feet are even on the ground they're doing a DP or a throw. I have no idea how Kens more than any other character seem to have such fast moves, so yeah, it's normal, lol
If you're looking for something else, check out the HORI fighting commander. It's my go-to pad for 6 Button Arcades like SF.
Also there are cheaper sticks. Mayflash has a ~$50 option. Qanba Drone is $70, or you can step up to Evo Drone for $100 which has Sanwa parts. All of the above are relatively small and light, which is my complaint with them. But they seem perfectly fine from a functional standpoint.
If you like arcade stick, you have Mayflash controls. The Qanba Drone is a good control for a reasonable price too... Furthermore, it's Qanba ... If you can find it, there's Madcatz's Fighting Stick Alpha still selling. All of these I saw on Amazon and all are for under $ 80.
If you like Fighting Pad, there are options in mind. The Hori Fighting Commander 4 costs in the $ 40 range. There is also the Madcatz D-Pad, in the $ 30 range.
This way quarter circles, half circles and even Zangiefs 360 are doable on keyboard just fine and pretty fast.
However the main problem is that SFV does not seem to have proper SOCD cleaning on the software side. SOCD, if you are not familiar with that, is simultaneous, opposite, cardinal directions. That means the software does not handle situations correctly when left and right are pressed at the same time. Just tested it on keyboard and forward input (so right on P1 side and left on P2 side) always(!) wins. That's not good; it should either result in a neutral input or apply the last added input. Down and jump results in jump which is fine.
EDIT: The web says SFV should have SOCD cleaning. However if I use keyboard it always results for me in forward input wins. So yeah, it has SOCD cleaning of some sort but not the way I am used to.
So, if the first requirement with being able to send multiple inputs is not met, and the "wrong" SOCD cleaning added to that, it might explain why you have such a hard time getting precise control. Then you maybe really want to change to other variants of controller hardware.

Keyboards can be great, a lot of people have been creating what are called "mixboxes" to simulate them. If you use a keyboard, make sure it doesn't have ghosting issues and can register at least 6-10 inputs simultaneously.
I recommend using "A,S,D,Spacebar" for movement and number keys for attacks, this can make it easier. But you're not wrong; it isn't an intuitive method and while it can be extremely effective with practice I don't find it enjoyable to play this way.
As for Ken, seems like he's in a good spot right now. The gaps between his attacks can be large enough to punish in a lagless environment, but online they're nearly impossible to react.
Baiting and training players not to wake-up SRK is important early in the match, especially in lower ranks (sometimes they won't learn and you can just beat them this way).
