Fight Stick on your lap
I play with a fight stick and I play with it on my lap.

Problem is that my lap is curve downwards to the knee so it's difficult for me to move the joystick upwards and press the punch buttons. Sometimes I will accidentally hit the kick buttons. This also would mess up my timing.

Sometimes when I'm doing combos my foot would involuntarily tiptoe and push my knee upwards to help me hit the buttons correctly. My calf is hurting and not only that, it's making me lose. It's extremely difficult to play.

I also sometimes compete at tournaments or go to other people's house to play hence why I always use my lap to get used to it but it's impossible to get used to it.

In Esports Arena, they have chairs where it curve downwards as you sit, forcing you to slide down and forcing your knee to go up. Thus I can hit the bottoms correctly.

How do I fix this problem? How do you guys and the pros do it? Thanks.

I had this problem before as well. I adjust height by leveling my lap with slippers. Hahahaha. I also use a chair which suits my sitting height.

adjust your chair height. that's the only advice you need

I'm not a pro, but I have a suggestion: sit in an Indian position. In this position, rest your legs for each period.

If there is table in some tournaments to support the control, why not use? I find it easier to play with control leaning on the table than on my lap.

Depending on the situation, I'll use a table, prop both feet up on another chair, use a blanket or towel to level out the arcade stick, or just sit in a "half-Indian" position. Basically the left foot is on the floor. The right is tucked under the left knee. probably terrible for circulation but it's comfortable for me at least.

Absolute worst case scenario, I'll just play on a gamepad. But then again, I've never been an arcade stick purist. I've also never been anything more than a casual scrub, so, whatever...

Short and simple. I like it. I know this is an old post but you solved the problem with me and probably for many others as well. Just put something on the floor high enough to elevate your knees so you won't have that downward slope on your lap. Just buy a cheap foot rest at Amazon or something. They go for about $20. It's a game changer. Bad joke. Here's your reward.
