1080p on a 4K TV
Hi,

I've been playing this game at 1080p on my 4K TV for some time now but recently the game has reverted back to 4K resolution only when connected to it. This makes the game way too slow and I want to find a way to run it at the desktop resolution again.

Before I got this working by setting desktopresolutionforfullscreen to true in gameusersettings and the game ran fine. This now no longer works or something has been changed to stop the file from working. Can anyone tell me how to set the game so this setting is always used? I've tried setting it to read only and the resolution is set to 1080p but it always displays 4K now.

Thanks

The game has graphics settings to change the resolution. Just change it in there and don't run the game in windowed mode. For example, I could run the game in 720p on my 1080p monitor without an issue.

It's odd that the desktop resolution setting would have ran it at 1080p. I'd imagine that on a 4K TV the resolution would be 4096x2160, so setting DesktopReslutionForFullScreen = True would use the desktop res of 4K.

edit: Derpy typo fixed

It’s a bit more of a complicated issue than that so will try explain further. It’s a laptop connected to a 4K and the laptop’s native resolution is 1080p. The game runs perfectly on the laptop at 1080p and until today was running on the 4K TV at 1080p too. Now it only runs at 4096 x 2160 on the 4K TV no matter what resolution I set in the settings. For example I can set it to 1920 x 1080 in the settings and it will show that as the setting, but the TV is still receiving 4096 x 2160.

Ah I see, so perhaps your TV is upscaling the image to 4k. I don't suppose that there's an option built into the TV to turn off upscaling?

Did you update your GPU drivers recently by chance (maybe also an automatic update in background)? Check the monitor settings in your GPU drivers first, after that check the settings on your TV (in case you've changed them recently).

You can try to reset all SFV settings:

Backup your single player savegame file GameProgressSave.sav
first.

Press: Win+R
Paste:
%LocalAppData%\StreetFighterV\saved\savegames
Confirm with ENTER, to access that path directly.

After that, delete the whole folder:
%LocalAppData%\StreetFighterV

That will reset all your SFV configuration settings = fresh config. Copy your savegame file GameProgressSave.sav back after that.
________

Alternatively you can run SFV in windowed mode. Steam library => Street Fighter V properties => launch command:
-windowed

Or

-fullscreen -borderless

You can also set custom resolutions with more launch commands, check the command line section here:

Well I’ve actually fixed this before by setting the desktop resolution to true in gameusersettings.ini but it seems to have stopped working somehow - perhaps after an update? It’s definitely something to do with the game rather than the TV or laptop’s setting since only Street Fighter V is doing it and it has done it before. The solution probably lies within the ini files but I don’t know what has changed or how to over ride it this time.

Make sure that you DON'T change the *.ini files in the Steam game installation folder, but the *.ini files in the
%LocalAppData%\StreetFighterV\saved
folder.

You can delete all the *.ini files in your installation folder and run a game file cache verification in your Steam library SFV properties, to restore the default *.ini files.

Right I’ve tried those suggestions and thanks for those, unfortunately they don’t do the trick. The closest I’ve got is with -fullscreen -borderless but I’m getting way too many frame rate drops with that. It’s displaying in 1080p and is mostly smooth, but nothing like it was in actual full screen mode. It doesn’t seem to be picking up any changes made to the localappdata ini settings even after resetting everything to default.

Okay looking at this today I’m wondering if it could be a permissions issue? No settings are being saved at all and revert to default every time I open the game. I also had an error message on steam saying Shenmue update couldn’t be applied, which could be related.

I checked the program files folder steam is in and noticed it is set to read only. Could this be causing the issue? What would happen if I unticked the read only box? There’s thousands of files in there so this would take ages and not sure if that’s how it’s supposed to be. There’s only one account on the laptop so I assume it has all admin privilidges.

Removing the read only properties from game files won't hurt you in any way, unless you are a modder and want to prevent specific files to be changed/replaced, do a backup if you have something important there.
_______________

Is there a file callen GameUserSettings.ini
in your
%LocalAppData%\StreetFighterV\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
folder?

Check the content inside, or create a backup of that file and replace the original content with this low settings one + save:

[/script/kiwigame.kiwigameusersettings] ResolutionSizeX=1920 ResolutionSizeY=1080 GameVersion=5 ScalabilityResolution=(bGroupQuality=True,ResolutionQuality=50,ScreenPercentageSettingIndex=71) ScalabilityViewDistance=(bGroupQuality=True,ViewDistanceQuality=0,SkeletalMeshLODBiasSettingIndex=-1,ViewDistanceScaleSettingIndex=-1) ScalabilityAntiAliasing=(bGroupQuality=True,AntiAliasingQuality=0,PostProcessAASettingIndex=-1,MSAACompositingSampleCountSetting=-1) ScalabilityShadow=(bGroupQuality=True,ShadowQuality=0,LightFunctionQualitySettingIndex=-1,ShadowQualitySettingIndex=-1,ShadowCSMMaxCascadesSettingIndex=-1,ShadowMaxResolutionSettingIndex=-1,ShadowRadiusThresholdSettingIndex=-1,ShadowDistanceScaleSettingIndex=-1,ShadowCSMTransitionScaleSettingIndex=-1,DistanceFieldShadowingSettingIndex=-1,DistanceFieldAOSettingIndex=-1) ScalabilityPostProcess=(bGroupQuality=True,PostProcessQuality=0,MotionBlurQualitySettingIndex=-1,AmbientOcclusionLevelsSettingIndex=-1,AmbientOcclusionRadiusScaleSettingIndex=-1,DepthOfFieldQualitySettingIndex=-1,RenderTargetPoolMinSettingIndex=-1,LensFlareQualitySettingIndex=-1,SceneColorFringeQualitySettingIndex=-1,EyeAdaptationQualitySettingIndex=-1,BloomQualitySettingIndex=-1,FastBlurThresholdSettingIndex=-1,UpscaleQualitySettingIndex=-1,TonemapperQualitySettingIndex=-1,LightShaftQualitySettingIndex=-1) ScalabilityTexture=(bGroupQuality=True,TextureQuality=0,StreamingMipBiasSettingIndex=-1,MaxAnisotropySettingIndex=-1,StreamingPoolSizeSettingIndex=-1) ScalabilityEffects=(bGroupQuality=True,EffectsQuality=0,TranslucencyLightingVolumeDimSettingIndex=-1,RefractionQualitySettingIndex=-1,SSRQualitySettingIndex=-1,SceneColorFormatSettingIndex=-1,DetailModeSettingIndex=-1,TranslucencyVolumeBlurSettingIndex=-1,BlurRadiusSettingIndex=-1,MaterialQualityLevelSettingIndex=-1,SSSScaleSettingIndex=-1,SSSSampleSetSettingIndex=-1,EmitterSpawnRateScaleSettingIndex=-1) bUseVSync=True LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeX=0 LastUserConfirmedResolutionSizeY=0 WindowPosX=-1 WindowPosY=-1 LastConfirmedFullscreenMode=0 FullscreenMode=2 [ScalabilityGroups] sg.ResolutionQuality=50 sg.ViewDistanceQuality=0 sg.AntiAliasingQuality=0 sg.ShadowQuality=0 sg.PostProcessQuality=0 sg.TextureQuality=0 sg.EffectsQuality=0

replace
FullscreenMode=2
with
FullscreenMode=0
if you want to play in full screen

Also could you please post your GPU driver settings (nVidia and Intel) as a screenshot?
virtuaennis Sep 16, 2018 @ 3:25pm
Yes I’ve been trying to change this in the gameusersettings found in localappdata. I’ve just replaced it with the settings you’ve posted and all that does is considerably reduce the quality but it still displays at 4096 x 2160. In the settings it says it’s 1920 x 1080 but it’s still being scaled up to the full 4K (it visually looks really blurry / low quality but still runs slow due to the resolution). Before yesterday it was running at 1080p on this TV with the other settings on high nice and smoothly.

I’ll post a screenshot of driver settings tomorrow (it’s 11:20pm now) but I really don’t think it’s anything in there that needs changing. This was happening when I first got the game and was fixed by something in gameusersettings.ini but it seems to have been overwritten or something now. The game runs fine via the laptop screen too and every other game is also fine. I’ll still post them so we can eliminate it as a possibility but feels to me like a bug with the unreal engine code.

Okay here's a screenshot of nvidia and intel settings. I'm not sure that there's anything here that will affect it since the issue is localised to just this game, but happy to be proven wrong.

Did you already try to use override application settings in your Intel driver settings?

What are your moniton + resolution settings in your nVidia driver? And advanced Intel driver settings?
virtuaennis Feb 9, 2019 @ 5:00am
Hi sorry I’m bumping this because I’m still having the issue. Barely had chance to try any other solutions in months due to there being massive updates for the game I haven’t had chance to download. It seems in this time it hasn’t been fixed by Capcom yet so hoping to actually get to play this soon.

Gone back through this thread and the answer to the last question is my resolution settings are all set to 1080p and set to override app settings.

Thanks would be great to get this sorted.

So, years later, this still hasn’t been fixed. This game and only this game is permanently locked to 4K resolution on a 4K screen, which my computer just can’t handle. I expect I’ll have a new computer now by the time this is ever sorted but it’s pretty disappointing to try the game again, wait for an insanely huge update and it just runs exactly the same.

Running SFV in windowed mode should give you a much higher frame-rate boost,
if the game is forced to run 4k in full screen on your HDMI device for any reason.

Also go to game settings / options => graphics settings and make sure that the screen resolution is set to 1920x1080 or whatever fits your needs.

As the last resort, there is also a picture quality option in graphics settings, when you click on it, you can lower the resolution scaling down to 50%, but that looks kinda awful (usually).

It's still strange though, because you can usually define the external screen resolution in your graphics driver settings individually for any connected HDMI screen individually.

Ways to run the game in windowed mode:

Steam library => Street Fighter V properties => launch command:
-windowed

Or

-fullscreen -borderless

Or

press
ALT + ENTER when your game is in full screen mode
