Or pick whomever you want. Nothing's really that complicated in this, so there's no reason not to just pick a character that looks appealing to you or you like the idea of how they play.
S: Cammy, Birdie, Necalli
A: Ryu, Balrog, Guile, Ken, Ed, Falke
B: Akuma, Karin, Nash, Bison, Chun-Li
C: The Rest
F-: Menat, Dhalsim, Zangief
What do the different letters stand for?
Don't know how a Tierlist works?
S = Super Good
A = Good
B = Average
C = below Average
D = Bad
E = Very Bad
F = *Tidus Laugh* Bad
If you want it simple "translated"
most combos in this game use links and cancels but there are a few chains (called "target combos" in game)
I think they probably gave him that for Tekken and MK people to get thier feet wet.
Cammy is also a great character to start as she has a simple but effective game plan and no complicated inputs beyond the basic DP input (foward, down, forward + K)
Ed and Falke have easy inputs. none of thier moves have motions with the exception of thier supers. ed is designed for close range and falke is a more defensive style who wants keep her opponents out. unfortunately both are DLC, Ed is part of S2 and Falke is part of S3. though you could unlock both for free if you want to spend your FM. the character stories and Demos should give you a nice chunk to start with
one warning about Ryu though, at lower levels he (and Ken) are VERY popular. so most players have a good idea of how to fight Ryu
also, don't worry too much when you hear about which characters are "top tier". at rookie, bronze, and silver everyone is perfectly viable since nobody really knows how to play effectively. the tiers Cipher posted were a "best for new player" tier. but if you look around you will see people talking about which characters are the strongest. ignore those posts they don't matter at low levels.
one final thing, if you see a character you like and want to play then do it. there is no substitute for passion. even if a character isn't the easiest you will still have more fun playing them then someone else
I think that is "easy to pick up" tier list. not a "who is best" tier list
Falke's easy inputs make her a great choice for new player with a defensive mindset
Don't expect much intellect from someone with an Abigail Avi.
Motion is when you have to input different kind of motion/directional input plus an attack button to execute a move. For instance Ryu would be a motion based character as he would have to do things like D>DF>F_P to do a fireball.
Charge is when the character requires you to hold a button down/back etc and you have to do it for a moment before doing another simple input to execute a move. For example Guile is this type of character. You cannot press down and up + K to do the move. You have to hold down for a bit then press up + K to execute the move.
So depending on your style here's the basic characters to use depending on your style.
Motion based:
Ryu (Ken if you prefer fast based rush down sort of character) or Cammy as the base character.
S1 - Ibuki
S2 - Kolin and maybe Akuma (I find him a bit more tricky and difficult to execute the combos than comapred to the base character Ryu or Ken).
Charge Based (this bit s mroe of an assumption as i cannot play any charge characters, I'm hopeless with them):
Bison
S1 - Guile and maybe Balrog
S2 - N/A, I don't think there's really any charge characters in season 2. ED only has the one charge move but rest are not charge mvoes at all i think.
My personal thoughts is play Ryu first. He is easier to learn the basics. not too fast, not too slow, doesn't have any complicated movesets and many easy to perform combos. playing faster characters in my experience has been more difficult which I'm referring to Ken and Cammy. However, if you don't like playing him i suggest trying Cammy or Ken
Go to Challenges > Demostration Vol 1 2 and 3 of your character.
Afterwards, Challenges Trials and try doing the basic combos. Disregard one of them if it's too situational.
Want to know how I know you're still gold after all these years based on this tier list?

To bad you didn't either read or understand.
