Feels like he has to work more for damage, his normals have more awkwardness, I'd prefer to not have to hold buttons for his punch move, he has no invincible reversal and his gimmicks seem more limited.
Not sure we're looking at top tier here but he seems to hold his own to me. Not sure about either V-Trigger though...both seem too gimmicky after a few hours of play. You are right about working for damage...but I think I like him more than the IV vesion so far.
I think he's still free to play for another day or so.
So far he is the highlight in Season 3...I HATE all the others.
I think he has been fun to play with. Though execution and combo with him is difficult (tried the trials) and can hold his own against the other cast in my view if you know how to use him.
His v-trigger is like a double edge sword too. Good to counter many things and can get through many things but if your opponent blocks it you're pretty much waiting for huge problem as it gives the opponent plenty of time to crush counter. But it's a very good v-skill to counter and anti-air etc.
I played him a bit and the knife seems fun but the pipe is the one to go for if you're looking to play with the best options.
obviously too early to say how good he is but I think he is mid-tier.
Some of the stuff he does can pack big damage.
A fun character but I can't play him properly for some reason I just find comboing with him to be a bit too difficult especially when playing against an opponent. I got past trial 8 and I think his real damage dealing factor is if he can crush counter using the standing HK. Plenty range and it should give options for other thigns to go in (haven't figured anything myself but seeing you can add another standing HK then you should be able to mix other things, having v-trigger two ready to activate makes it deadly).
I honestly see since he is quite fun, for those determined and are fans of his they can take this character far.
I'm finding he has some pretty natural combos. But the trials are a challenge. I think I lean toward the knife trigger just for the extension it gives on his combos...but the pipe range boost has its moments too. Overall I think he'll end up mid tier too.
He has a special wakeup thing that is 3 frames I guess..."Bad Spray", when I messed with it I didn't get it to work tho, so eh.
You have to press up+punch as you get up.
Bad spray is a little different now...you have to quick recover and then immediately do it before he is fully on his feet. I think it actually makes it more precise now but it was tricky to pick up. In Alpha 3 it was always a 50/50 on whether I'd get bad spray or just roll. So I'm a fan. Thanks for the combo data postings.
His gameplay is very simple!
My idea is this:
Change his v-skill.
Front + v-skill: He will kick the ground throwing up dust and dirt on the opponent, if he is not defending or if he push a button he will be bewildered giving Cody advantage frames.
Low + v-skill: Cody will crouch, pick up a rock and throw at his opponent (a fireball that fits much more with the character).
Up + v-skill: Will do what the v-skill is doing now, Cody jumps and launches his two-sided kick.
Back + v-skill: Cody fakes one of his moves and jumps back (I could not get a better idea for that part).
I think Cody should be a lot more a dirty fighter than a karate guy.
And since this new v-skill would give him a fireball, put it in the place of that tornado trash his criminal upper.
