Did you try to disable all Steam controller API options in Steam's Desktop+Big Picture Mode? and then deleting the file input.ini?
Set your controller to PS3 mode, if available. XBOX 360 controllers should work out of the box.
The keyboard buttons B or N should always work.
As I said in OP, deleting the input file doesn't work. Also tried messing with the steam controller options in Big Picture mode and nothing works. Keyboard doesn't work either.
Literally all my other fighters work fine, but every time I try to get into SFV I end up dropping it again because the controllers never work. I've made threads in the past and nothing ever comes of it, but I had hoped by now that maybe someone out there has some real tips that work. :(
XBOX 360 devices definitely work without any configuration, because I have multiple of them here running in SFV:AE, D-input devices need to be configured in SFV the very first time you plug them in, after that the settings are saved in the input ini file.
The input.ini file is stored in two locations on your PC. In the Steam folder as well as on the Windows drive in the Users/[username]/AppData/Local/StreetFighterV/Saved/Config/WindowsNoEditor folder. I've found it infrequently gets borked when you swap controllers while playing SFV.
even if I didn't, all my other fighting games work fine. Just SFV that is ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Sometimes, very rarely, the keyboard will work and I can navigate to the controller mapping menu to reassign buttons and there both 1P and 2P Direct Input Mapping are discolored even if a controller is plugged in. If I try unplugging a controller or fightstick and replugging it in, it'll darken for just a moment and then disappear again. Once earlier tonight I was able to get the fighstick working briefly to where I could get to the reassign button screen, but then it would mysteriously stop working and I couldn't map any buttons.
I love Street Fighter, but man I own SFIV on PC and it works fine. I have no idea how the hell capcom ♥♥♥♥♥♥ this game up as bad as they did when it worked fine at launch. I had NO issues at launch other than the game being a bit laggy and it not really having much content. I just want to check out the new version of the game but can't, and this sucks but nothing anyone has recommended has worked. Capcom obviously doesn't care about the problem either.
why did they do things this way? SFIV works fine. I just don't understand what the hell they did to this game :/
And I just noticed you mentioned using an Xbox one controller, not an Xbox 360 controller like the other poster. If the Xbox one controller still isn't working after deleting the input.ini files you might want to try updating its firmware/drivers here... https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-windows/accessories/connect-xbox-one-controller-to-pc
as far as the Xbone controller goes, the firmware is updated and every other game I own works fine with it so I don't think that'll fix my issues with SFV. I'll report back when I find out if Joy2key works or not. Thanks for the replies so far.
This is absolutely ridiculous.
controller support for this game sucks. ive only ever gotten it to work through Big Picture mode, outside of an offical x360 controller that is.
I feel your pain man. I had no problems whatsoever with SF4 and USF4, but recent Capcom ports have been terrible. D&D Mystara Chronicles forced me to use joytokey in order to use my arcade stick. UMvC3 recognizes my arcade stick, but for some reason, up doesn't register although all other directions work so I had to refund it. I can play SFV with my stick, but it refuses to let me map two of the buttons, although I'm fortunate that I at least managed to have six functional buttons for the main controls.
