Capcom already blocked some of our modding tools! Please show some respect for mod creators by not getting us all shut down!
unless it was an offical dlc costume that was unlocked?
1. Not the moderators, I'm talking about Capcom hitting mod authors with DMCA's or C&D's.
2. Yes that video is of official DLC getting "unlocked"
If you mean BrutalAce and Khaledantar666, Capcom only targeted costume modders who were charging money for their mods. BrutalAce charged for early access, while Khalendantar allegedly charged pretty hefty fees for "premium" versions of his mods.
Further, Capcom did not threaten either modder with legal action. Capcom send the DMCA notices to Patreon, in order to get Patreon to shut down the modders' accounts. (Patreon had become the payment service of choice for those who charged for mods.)
And we didn't actually lose either modder. BrutalAce said he was quitting for a while, but later resumed making mods. He openly posts that people can send him donations through PayPal. Khaledantar, for whom modding was a literal business, went a bit more underground. He openly promotes his mods, but keeps his pricing model and purchase instructions private, passed through direct personal messages whenever someone asks how they can get a particular mod.
AFAIK, Capcom never went after either modder again. Nor did Capcom at any point target the modders' YouTube or DeviantArt accounts, which were primary forms of advertisement for their mods.
That isn't to say that Capcom actually likes people modding SFV.
Just so you know, the latest patch Capcom released before the Falke patch broke one of our modding tools, it was deliberate, we can still mod, but we have to do it in a less clean way.
That's the other side of what I'm talking about when I mention Capcom shutting down modding.
The nonsense road blocks they put in place that we have to manuver around. I don't get why people simply can't extend the courtesy of just not posting these kinds of mods on Steam.
Show off mods, sure, but not stuff that rips unlockable content. It has the potential to make things harder for literally no reason.
Agree. By all means, show off custom mods, but keep actual DLC costume rips away from the threads.
Ironically, I find after the patch, the workarond to modding is even easier. Literally just dump your mod files into one folder, make sure they're correctly named, and that's it.
Yes, that has been standard operating procedure for Capcom. Multiple updates have temporarily broken mod support, with changes that appear to be deliberate acts rather than coincidence. At the same time, Capcom hasn't gone out of its way to target costume mods. They just take a fairly basic shot every now and then. (Compare this, for example, to Nintendo's failed attempts to target homebrew on the Wii. Yes, Nintendo was slow to act and repeatedly failed, but that was because Nintendo was slow to react in general and was completely incompetent when it came to security matters.)
Anyway, I spoke specifically about the BrutalAce and Khaledantar situation because you specifically mentioned Capcom sending DMCAs to shut down modders.
Microtransaction ♥♥♥♥ has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ some of what made pc gaming great, tbh the greed since gaming has become so profitable has ♥♥♥♥♥♥ gaming over in lots of ways.
loads of souless corporate crap we cant try and improve ourselves because some greedy ♥♥♥♥ wants to charge money for what is mostly pointless poxy texture changes on old models or half arsed content no where near worth the money.
because of modding games (I use to be involved with GTA modding, from III until IV was released) I got into coding, I know max like its a best friend, photoshop etc..
I know its the same for lots of others too so what happens when these greedy ♥♥♥♥♥ who probably dont even play games get their way and put a stop to modding?
I ended up giving modding up and jumping into ue4 which is obviously a much better use of my time but I only understand everything because I was a modder for so long but what about those in the future? where will they get the knowledge to do these things? I found ue4 overwhelming at the start and I had a rough idea what to do and how games work (ive written tools, made maps, conversions etc) how will the future game designers be able to do what they need without going to uni or persevering through?, what I imagine is a daunting task learning something like ue4 when the only experience of gaming is playing games (anyone that makes games should know what its like to say that to someone that only plays them, loads of extremely unrealistic ideas)
Sorry bit of a drunken rant probably went right off track but ♥♥♥♥ it.
edit..
Also the modders that do it to charge people money are the same type of ♥♥♥♥ causing problems at the other end of the spectrum. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ leeches.
Same with me, bro. Mods are the reason why I keep playing dis schit...
So you play a game which you generally dislike just because of some cosmetic mods?
Are you a masochist or just plain stoopid?
