Season 2 Tear (tier) List
Ok so i've seen the pro's having tantrum's on twitter all week, first Laura and Urien were broken, now Cammy and Guile are by far the most broken top tiers in need of major nerfs, or so they're tweeting. This has somewhat renewed my interest in this game despite all its drawbacks (to me). So what are the top tier or overly powered characters in your opinion? Are the pros just being babies and having knee jerk reactions, or are those really the top 4 SF5 characters? Akuma is free? Discuss....

Hard to say after only a week. I'd say Urien, Guile and Cammy look the strongest as of now, Akuma and Balrog probably closely behind. Not sure about Laura though. Lots of other chars are still pretty strong too.

I agree, but the complaining is there already. At least regular players feel better about it.

Any source ? Every japanese pro player seems happy about the patch.

Don't tell me you only listened to usual "I'll quit SFV !" US crybabies ?

Top Tier = Overpowerd and overly broken.

Yeah right, this comes from the same guy who says SFIV with Wifi is an awesome experience.

But since you think people on Eventhubs are incredible smart and know what they're talking about here is a list of characters Cammy loses to 6-4 according to Eventhubs users:

Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Chun-Li, Cammy, Dhalsim, Zangief, Birdie, Laura, FANG, Rashid, Juri, R.Mika, Guile, Alex, Balrog, Bison, Vega, Ibuki, Urien, Karin, Necalli, Nash

those people`s complains arent reliable cues it basically sums up to, oh i won with x character he/she is overpowerd and if you think im bullshiting then take a look at Smash Melee`s history of tier lists.

Week 1 rants. Birdie and Dictator were uber OP tier on week 1 beta too ...

No CPT tourney until March. Wait and see.

I don't think WIFI is good for any game and don't personally use it, although it is prevelent on PSN. As for Allioune, Sabin, Ricki Ortiz, and a couple other players who said they are expecting balance changes/nerfs before the CPT starts via twitter, they are tournament players and Ortiz and another American placed higher than any of the asians this year in the CPT. Granted it's in an easier game and they couldn't accomplish top 2 in USF4, but that isn't the point.

I haven't seen a tier list been properly fleshed out for an SF game since about 2010.

The definition of 'properly fleshed out' is a tier list where each character specialist comes together and sits down with every other character specialist and fights it out in a first to 10.

Nowadays they use a 'Fisher Price' tier list.
That's where you grab a fridge magnet depicting your favourite character and stick it in an area where you feel like it should belong.

(Personally I think Boxer is flying under the radar. Big time.)

I think there's a big overstatement about Urien and Laura buffs due to the fact that most people ignored or overlooked both characters. Sure their tools are good, but they were in S1 too, and now they are simply more able to carry out their gameplan due to the other nerfs. Basically they just went from mid to upper mid (or even high tier considering Urien).
Cammy and Guile are indeed potentially top tiers this season. They were already very good before and they have been strengthened where they were already good at. Rog is another character that is probably gonna be used much more since his buffs were very valuable too.
Akuma will be pretty good as soon as some good players will have figured him out. Not broken, but definitely good.
Overall I believe the only characters that will drop down in usage are Ryu (due to his nerfs + Akuma being basically a better version of him) and Karin (Mago is dropping her for Rog and JWong has been thinking of dropping her for a while).

A funny thing is that a lot of Japanese pro players including Nemo and Daigo are saying that this will be the year of Gief. I'd really like to know what is this all about.

Yeah the world finals that everyone was working their way into for the largest prize pool in history FGC history. I mean if you really want asian players Diago said Ryu is no longer Viable and is now switched to Guile in Season 2, Xian said Fang wwas rekt, Nemo dropped his main for Urien, Infiltration took to twitter as well and said his main Nash is dead, ruined by nerfs and he's gonna be using a new main. So it's all players dropping their nerfed to hell mains basically and others outright calling for balance changes already.
Vega wasn't really "nerfed to hell" (he got more than one buff) so I really don't know why Nemo dropped him. I guess since the clawless stance is the one that got slowed down and he almost never played with the claw on he didn't feel comfortable anymore... or he just wanted to switch to another character that fits him better.

CPT points wise, Arturo and Ricki were low profile, didn't do that much of a "boom" all year long, compared to "top CPT players", though, yeah Ricki ended up 2nd during C.Cup indeed.

Alioune ragequitted SFV after losing hard in a few tourneys, as usual with Alioune anyway lol

If you aren't used to pro players downplaying, now is a good time :)

Also, switching to a top tier, is their way to boost their chance into getting money this year.

Tier lists for these guys, aren't really "tier list material" for casuals playing SFV, as you can see on E.Hubs (your source of info it seems), with people's tier list ranking Guile as bottom tier.

I'll stick to what I believe to be true : week 1, no use to ask for nerfs or build up tier lists. Week 1 ? you lab all day and you learn new matchups.

Birdie and Dictator were everyone's favourites during early SFV, we all know how it ended up ...

Man some quick replies got in there before I could get my previous reply posted. = I appreciate all the replies and i'd +1 a lot of them if I could! So it seems like all of you guys feel season 2 is pretty good and that their are largely huge overreactions from various pro players. Which is basically what I was wondering. Just seemed odd that they keep crying about new characters every week being "too good", while more casual players generally seem fine with the game currently and aren't having these huge overreactions. I can't disagree with moon's post, it makes a lot of sense. I also don't understand the gief hype train, I saw something about that this morning, but it's early here so didn't read up on it yet.

I just read Ehubs for the entertainment factor, but the tweeting storms i've seen are kinda epic. I follow JDCR and GreenTekken for my serious info on T7 and typically follow certain specific players for all 3D games that i'm into. With 2D I do visit SRK and EH to see what the latest complaints and things are, because they are largely 2D based sites, with varying levels of content.

Gief ? Easy : +2 on many things now (magic number since people can't jab out of SPD and you can link his CA), can Lariat more easily (projectiles and crouching opponents, cMP>sLK>Lariat hits every time now, meaning better mixups damage), his headbutt builds nice meter when nullifying zoning, his HP SPD and EX let him close enough to use heabutt for pressure, air HP SPD let him closer to opponent too, etc etc
